The truck has a 250 six in the picture. The four speed truck transmission was available with just about any engine combination.

Back in 1971 I bought a 64 GMC 1/2 ton short box step side 283 4 spd  from the original owner for $900 bucks! We used to refer to the 1st gear as bull low. 2,3+4 were all you normally needed. God I miss that truck!

Our 1985 fire truck has 4wd and a 454, manual transmission is marked Lo, 1,2, 3. We only use Lo for special occasions.

My 1985 GMC Sierra came with a 305, with the same LO, 1,2,3 transmission.  Now our turck has 383 HO crate, put it in LO, and just take your foot of the clutch and it will jump to

attention, but it will not stall the engine.  I like the extreme low end torque with the extreme low end gearing of LO, fun to drive Video 069.jpg
