It is now the one year anniversary of ownership of my 1968 Beaumont Convertible, and I thought it might be fitting to provide a brief update on the progress of my build. After my purchase I began investigating the many sources of information and parts for my car. It has been a long road finding some of the pieces that I think will look good and keep my car looking somewhat reasonably period correct. I am in no way trying to create an absolute perfect example, but something that I can drive, and enjoy on an ongoing basis. Starting with the Vintage Vehicle documentation, I began to see that staying color correct to its original delivery was going to be my ultimate plan...Code A Tuxedo Black, with the 796 Red buckets/console interior was a nice combination. Next was the powertrain, and of course the long gone original 307/ PG wasn't exactly a strong point, and because it simply no longer existed, the decision was made to upgrade to the 396 ,Th400, 12 bolt posi 342. I was able to source a very nice powertrain, and that has now been installed, and is running very well. Next was the body. Being an original Kelowna BC car, there was very little if any serious corrosion, and the car retains it original floors and trunk pans. The BB hood needed some fairly extensive work and now is looking very nice. As well, the passenger fender was too far gone, and it was replaced with a new NOS fender. The rest of the body was polished back to a nice lustre, and will remain that way for the forseeable future. The red SD stripes were added to accentuate the red interior color. The interior as it is now will need the most attention, and the convertible top. I will be ordering replacement door panels, and having the seats recovered in the future. The dash instruments were upgraded with a tach, speed warning, w/ low fuel light. Some other interesting additions, reclining passenger strato bucket seat, soft ray DCL glass, map light mirror, under hood light, boxed lower control arms and rear sway bar, 15x7 rally wheels with short caps. These items are in addition to an already fairly impressive option sheet. Thank you all for the inspirational comments and shared pictures of your Beaumonts. It truly helps generate the energy to continue moving forward.
