1970 Road Runner 440 6 pack with 5,000 miles - barn find

or Garage find more accurately

https://journal.classiccars.com/2018/12/19/lowest-mileage-1970-road-runner-been-found-ohio-garage-find/

the thing that amazes me is how rusted the original spark plugs are

I always thought the 1970 styling was more attractive than the 68/69 cars

Nice looker. But if it was anything like my 69 Runner its a bucket of bolts.
Probably why it never got driven.

Amazing find.  You never know what is out there yet.

FWIW, I'd take one of these over any of its contemporaries (including any SD, SS, GTO, GS, etc).  I've had good experiences with all of the Mopars of the era that I've owned.  Just my opinion, however, not that anybody wants to hear it... biggrin

I'll say! and not to rub it in BUT my driveway 454 LeMans absolutely ate up that 440 Roadrunner. That 440 Beep Beep would disappear like a speck of dust in my rear view mirror.

LOL.  I'm sure I've read the exact opposite on Mopar boards. "Chevy junk"  "Ford garbage"

Point being, we all have our preferences and our biases.  I can't expect a GM board to heap praise on a 440+6 Mopar... biggrin

Not doubting the validity of your story, I'm sure you dusted a 440 Road Runner.  Just saying that there's a lot of bias in the car world and it's fun and funny at the same time.

Would every 454 GM A-body beat every 440 Mopar B-body?  I highly doubt that you can draw clear lines in any case, because as you and everybody else here knows, it's all about the individual car (i.e. what's in the motor, how well was it built, how well is it tuned, what exhaust does it have, what rear end gears are in it, what is the intake/carb combo, etc etc etc), and in some cases the driver (how hard is the other guy willing to push his car, etc).

It's not worth much of a discussion, but I can't recall any time that I've read a brand-oriented messageboard where the poster says that their brand always gets beaten by another brand.  It's the nature of the beast.

So when I read on a GM messageboard that these Mopars are buckets of bolts or always get toasted by GM big blocks, I just take it with a grain of salt.  It's not unexpected, you'd read the same type of bias on other messageboards, like a Mopar board where they talk about all the Chevys they've beaten, or a tuner board talking about all the V8 muscle cars they've beaten, etc etc.

It's all good, though.  I love your car, Ray, it's awesome.  Reminds me of the '73 Lemans I had years ago (which wasn't fast like yours).  I also love the '70 Road Runner in the article.  I even like Fords, AMCs, Studebakers, Packards, Hupmobiles, Franklins, European cars, Japanese cars, etc etc etc.  I guess you could say I like 'em all!  But I too don't like them all equally... wink

The article is almost 3yrs old. Wonder where it is now and if it ever found its way across the stupid$ Barrett Jackson block for some highly inflated price?

For the record I'd have to say that a 1970 GTX is one of my top 5 favourite muscle cars of all time, that cop car brown or bronze colour dark brown vinyl roof, magnum 500 wheels......

Give me a 67 Coronet RT, a 68 Plymouth GTX or a 69 Coronet Super Bee and I'd be in Mopar heaven. And of course any Charger RT between 68 and 70.

Im not partial to any brand. Ive had them all. If my Road Runner was representative of the brand Id stay away. Even my painter wonder why this thing was so slow. Had 4.10 gears. Revved around 5 grand on the highway. Not fun.

Cataclysmic eruption of top radiator hose, I thought the engine was gone but alas just coolant steam!
