After taking a wire wheel to mine, I used Krylon black primer, then Krylon semi-gloss black (both in rattle cans). I can't find their black primer here, but get it in the USA.

It's a good and very durable product. Just make sure you follow the surface prep properly, or the stuff will flake right off. It doesn't stick well to bare steel.

Personally, I'd just stick with Tremclad semi gloss black as the cheapest route. Or choose SprayMax 2K Hot Rod black if you want something more durable and pricey

Like already mentioned POR15 like to adhere to a rusty porous surface. It does work very well when applied in those conditions.

If using it, buy it in an amount that you will use, it does not store well once opened. Alway wear Gloves as it does not come off skin easily.

Use in ventilated area. Not good to breath in fumes. It will go chalky if exposed to UV rays. Left my frame out side for a few weeks and the whole thing went

chalky, had to be top coated. It does flow out nicely when brushed on.

I just used a quart on my truck (and have another quart I'm about to open). someone mentioned on here in the past about poking a sheet metal screw in the lid instead of opening it. I used one of those screws you use for installing sheet steel on a building. They have those rubber gaskets. I opened my can in July using this method and the small amount remaining is still liquid. I remove the screw with my cordless impact, fill a container with the amount I'm going to use and zip the screw back in. Keep in mind POR will go chalky if exposed to sunlight. It will peel if applied to smooth surfaces. POR makes a metal prep (which I have) that you apply to bare metal first to etch the steel and give the POR15 something to bite to. It's difficult to paint over POR15 once it has dried. You can sometimes have some success if you paint over POR15 when it is tacky. Sometimes certain paints will fisheye.
Also keep your skin covered (and your hair). Only time will remove it (or a pair of scissors if it's in your hair).

Have painted many gravel truck frames,..logging processors etc. I've always sprayed Armour coat or tremclad. The trick is to put acrylic hardner in the paint. Metal prep/prime/paint...bullet proof.
