Cool car non-the-less.

Even the bigger engine models of this year (1st. year) weren't the best built of cars. LOTS of rattles, and the bright red paint (unlike this burgundy car, a friend had a TA new in bright red colour) faded cloudy-pink within a year.

I would change the day two dated '80s wheels back to the original caps.

How many clicks are on it Kevin?

it is an "Iron Duke" engine;
As I came to understand it, these were made available because Pontiac was doing their "Super Duty 4" program;
You could buy parts over the counter and get that Iron Duke in SD trim to make an honest 300hp.

Almost no one did though.

Cool car - and an early stock/mint third gen is indeed a rare sight to see.

Were I better off, I'd inquire about buying it, just because it's unique - and I'd drive it exactly as-is.

Yes, according to Wiki it was the Iron Duke:

The Firebird lineup was available with several engines:

  1. The standard fuel-injected 90 hp 2.5L 4-cylinder Pontiac "Iron Duke": This marked the first time a 4-cylinder engine was offered in the Firebird and was the last true Pontiac engine to be offered in the Firebird. This engine was only offered for the first few years of the generation. It provided almost the same power as the V6, but when coupled with the 5-speed manual transmission, provided between 31 and 34 miles per gallon on the highway, depending on the year.[8]
  2. There was a carbureted 102 hp 2.8L V6.
  3. The LG4 5.0L: Utilizing GM's improved "Computer Command Control" system, the computer assisted E4ME carburetor, and computer controlled distributor, this Chevy 305ci produced 145 hp and 240Lbs.Ft. of torque.
  4. The LU5 5.0L: The new high-performance "Crossfire Fuel Injection" 5.0L V8, which employed a twin throttle body fuel injection system similar to that used in the 1982 Corvette's "Crossfire" 5.7L, and produced 165 hp.

Just to clarify, the Iron Duke was never actually released as anything but the stock engine;
The pace car used SD components including the scoop - but it definitely did not do pace car duties in stock trim.
