Is it me or is there something a little illogical about this Honda ad?:

2004 Honda CRV AWD great in snow. works great new brakes last year nice driving led light(orange) for rain, fog or snow. Inspected until Feb. Selling cause we bought a bigger SUV. $1650.00 neg or $1500 firm.

Reminds me of my friend's rich cheapskate father back in the 1980s... even though he was a rich old coot (he had owned a real estate firm), he was a wheeler dealer, so every week he'd take a bunch of junk to the flea market that he bought cheap, put a price on double what he wanted, crossed it off and then put on the price that he actually wanted.  People would come by and think they were getting 50% off of what he wanted, so they'd buy it up.

This person wants $1500 for it, but wants people to think they are getting a deal.  confuse

Some people just aren't good at selling. When I bought my 65, the ad said asking 5,000 OBO. When I went to look at it the first thing the guy said was that it was supposed to be $4,000 OBO. Figured I saved 1,000 before negotiating.

Strange since the guy was a realtor....

Yes, some people don't get it. When I went to buy my Park Avenue this summer my wife and another couple came with me to look at it (we made a bit of a day trip out of it- getting lunch first etc).
I'm at the stage when I'm going to try to negotiate the price with the seller when all of a sudden my friend's wife says "If you don't buy it Rick (another mutual friend) will!". That took quite a bit of steam out of my ability to negotiate...

I see this more often now... I think sellers know that people like to dicker on price... they know if they put $1500 firm someone will try to get it cheaper... so they put the obo price or a firm price so that the buyer can still have the satisfaction of getting them down to $1500!! ... seriously, that's my theory!

lol, no. She was just a bit naive about the buying process. She felt bad after the fact when her hubby explained she may have have cost me a few hundred bucks in savings lol.

Ive seen a slight variant of this where the seller states Price is $1500, but if you want to negotiate, we can start at $1650 and you can negotiate down to $1500.  Truth in advertising?

I've taught my Wife how to negotiate (I have certain rules when negotiating), and now she is an ace at the art of the deal.
