I think there's a field on Kijiji where you can input the VIN and those who want a CARFAX can get it through the site. I'd be leery giving the VIN out to a stranger. You could also get one yourself and email the result to those who are interested (with VIN blacked out)

I have given the VIN to anyone who asked on all the vehicles I have sold. As well, I always get a VIN before I buy. Never had an issue....I can go to any parking lot and grab any VIN from any car at anytime....

Am I missing something?

 True, for newer vehicles.

I never let our kids buy a vehicle (if it's a GM) without having the VIN first. Then I get the dealership warranty history and a Carfax or equivalent on it. If someone won't give the VIN I tell the kids just go see the vehicle, get the VIN and we'll search it before you commit to it.

I have searched VINs of prospective vehicles.

Found a problem with a dealer's car in about 2010.

They didn't declare to me that it was from out of province.

On Kijiji,

I got a note on some rims that I was selling.

"Please reply with your name, phone number and address"

I told them " No !, I will meet them at the London City Police, On-Line Sales Area, that they set up in their parking lot.

Not likely to get a response.

They have one of these areas in Charlottetown at the cop shop. It's a great thing.
