New border crossing rules today

I'll be looking forward to hearing reports from anyone who has done a trip to the US and back just to pick up parcels, etc.

went across at 6:45 this morning. Mail box does not open till 9am but they were early this morning. I shovelled their walk way well they loaded the cart with my packages. At the boarder they asked for some form I should have filled out for returning to Canada. He said you can download it on your phone and asked me to make sure i did it for next time. Went in paid my taxes and off i went. No cars in front of me going over and only one on the way back

ArriveCan is the App for your phone.

You can do a PC version as well.

Welcome - ArriveCAN (canada.ca)

You can do this in Canada and print it out before you leave.

As long as it is within 72 hours of the return.

This will become the norm in returning to Canada.

Our busses have had a terrible time convincing people that you need this to cross back into Canada.

The border guards are more lenient with individuals in cars but will flatly refuse people on our bus.

Takes only minutes to get it done and will really speed up your return.

The ArriveCAN app has been a requirement forany months (since May) but as people weren't travelling it was forgotten about.   Kevin dodged a bullet as a buddy came back from the US at a land border after a 3 day trip and was hit with a 14 day quarantine as he didn't have the app.

Everything I've read says i's required even for the 15 minutes I spend in the States when I pick up my parcels.

Good to know, we're going across next week to visit our favorite long missed wing place. Just because we can.

The big deal is getting around the Covid test requirement if you're gone <72 hours. When we came up in October, I'd neglected to do the ARRIVECan app submission, but a pleasant young CBPS agent guided us through it on my phone, took our documentation, and we only wasted about 30 mins messing around. I flew up Friday, crossed at Sarnia that afternoon, having this time filled in the app (and had the test done), and all they did was scan the image on my phone, ask if I had any handguns or other illicit stuff (like anyone's going to say, "oh, heck, you got me!"), and I was back in my Home and Native Land.

I believe they're waving the covid test mandate for citizens who are returning less than 72 hours after having departed for the Great Satan, starting today. That's a huge saving - we get the tests for zippo, but furriners take the gas pipe when you go to CVS or a 24 Hour Emergency Clinic to have your sinuses excavated.

The feds are already hinting tonight at the possibility of going back to the testing and quarantine for ALL travelers.

Good to know in the event that I get to cross the border again in 2022. However, this Covid virus seems to be ever-changing and parts of the US are not highly vaccinated so we may have to wait for a while to see how serious the pandemic remains, and how government policies in the US and Canada evolve to address it.

Lots of fear mongering over the new variant even thought the South African health authority has said all cases are showing minor symptoms. This is how a virus typically progresses- it mutates to be more contagious and less deadly. Everyone is going to get Covid so be prepared. It's also proven that taking Vitamin D (most of us are deficient and quite a few who end up in the ICU are very deficient- that's why darker skinned people are getting hit the hardest in the US and Canada- they can't absorb Vitamin D was well as fair skinned people here), Vitamin C, and Zinc can help reduce severity of the virus. I've been on this regiment for years along with Quercetin and NAC and I can't remember the last time I've been sick with any cold or flu. Also, if you like a few beers (or other spirits) this will dramatically effect your immune system's ability to fight the virus (any virus).
Quite a few docs who got Covid in the beginning did well with Quercetin and NAC.

What is the purpose of the ArriveCan app or website link?   Is it just a place to upload your vaccine information?  A one time thing?

Or do you need to enter information into ArriveCan every trip we make to the US by land?

I was planning to go to Michigan this weekend with my wife and daughter.  To pick up some car parts and do a little shopping.

My last question is, does everyone in our group need to create an account, or can I create an account and add my wife and daughter?

Based on the information in this topic, I want to make sure I complete everything properly, I don't want to have to quarantine for 14 days.

Frank

Frank my take on this is its a time stamp to put you in the under 72 hours no covid test or over 72 hours covid test required. I would think you have to do one for each member every time you cross

As a dispatcher of busses, constantly crossing the border since this App was launched, I can say it's been a part of travel that has not properly explained by everyone involved with it.

The App is the best on your smart phone but the link is for PC based registration.

You register, create a log in and follow question.

At the end, you get a code to print out or store on you phone.

Once this becomes well used, it will really speed up the big border crossings.

This needs to be done with in 72 hours of crossing from US to Canada each time you cross but you only have to create an account once.

If you don't have US roaming on your phone and are only crossing for the 3 day stuff, you can do that from the Canadian side.

Another part that the media has totally missed is that randomly, some people will get tested for Covid, vaccinated or not.

Switch Health - ASMO is to register with Health Canada for your test results, if you get tested.

So if I read this right, the US rule change still doesn't affect a Canadian wishing to drive across the border to enter the US?
