1958 hood rebuild

My hood has bad rust along the front end. There is quite a bit of rust between the hood brace and the hood itself. I took the plunge today and drilled out almost 100 spot welds and popped the two apart. Have one side of the hood patched now and a good start on replacing the leading edge of the brace. When all that is done and the rust removed, I get to reweld all those spot welds. Its a little daunting taking ones hood apart, Ill tell you that.

Where there's a will, there's a way holds true in your case.

Leading edge of the brace is done except for the final grind and hammer and dolly. Filled spot weld holes on one side of the brace, will tackle the other side and maybe the rear edge spot holes today. Getting low on welding gas and don`t feel like driving 40 min one way at -42 to get some.

Was looking at the combo welder at Canadian Tire. Stick, mig and tig combo. I`m used to using crappy welders- my present one is a Princess auto unit (flux/gas) about 14 years old. Making funny noises, but still works.

Made a bulls eye pick today. Very effective in raising low spots. Will make my goal of the quintessential skim coat of body filler a reality. Will post a pic of the file finished welds on the front edge of the brace. Have found a file removes a lot less metal than a grinder when finishing, resulting in far fewer thin spots.
