Have to replace the battery in 2008 Malibu HYBRID 4 CYL AUTO START STOP FEATURE

Need to replace the 7 year old battery bought from CAA. in my wife's casual driver.

Called CAA today and they came to the underground garage and boosted the battery.  It only had 8 volts and a new one was not possible as they indicated 5 years ago they set a  policy that they don't replace battery's in Hybrids. 

Oh well, I will just drive it for a couple of hours and charge it up.  Drove from Oshawa to Uxbridge and took a quick stop at McDonald's.  Came back out and car started.  Bonus!

Decided to go to the A&W a few hundred feet further down the road for an in house Papa Burger.   20 minutes later car was completey dead.    

Call CAA again and wait 45 nutess to get another boost. Drove home and backed car in ready for next boost.

 

Any suggestions for batterys and best possible warranty experience.

just replaced battery in my girlfriends 08 Pontiac Torrent. Had CAA come & boost it in her underground spot too. Drove it back here to Blackstock from T O , it started here too but when & put load tester on, it dropped like a stone!! Off to Car Quest, $169 + tax!!! Alternator putting out 14.5 volts. Battery didn't look that old [NAPA] but no bill no warranty!! 2 yr. warr. on Car Quest battery. Batteries "ain't cheap" anymore!!!!

What battery do you have in a hybrid? Anything unusual?
Ive had great luck with Costco or wallyworld batteries.

Curious why they wont replace it in a hybrid ? Is it a different style ?

Did some googling, not a regular battery at all. To start the conversation, go to a dealer and get a written quote so you know what spec it is and see what that tells you.

36V NiMH. Best I can find is $2,395USD, with your core.

This is our future - depleted, orphan energy storage devices, full of toxic stuff, too expensive to replace, but then the rest of the vehicle is not serviceable if you don't.

In the foreseeable future, these are going to displace worn-out Barcaloungers, and mattress sets, as illegally discarded trash along the roadsides. Recycling them safely is hideously expensive, and people are going to resist ponying up, especially at a time when they're faced with replacing their primary transport device.

The 36 volt battery is the secondary battery.  It is the 12 volt that needs replacing.

NAPA has a replacement for 180.00 with 20.00 core charge and I get 10 percent off with CAA card.

Wife says I'm in no condition to be playing around with batterys so it will at some point go to the dealers

 

It will be a business expense for a tax reduction so that is good.

That seems reasonable but still why wont CAA replace it ?

Received a reply from CAA about my complaint.  They indicated that the Mailbu required the dealership to reprogram the car after the battery was removed and that could not be done on a roadside service call.

Got a credit for the one extra battery boost call.

Maximum of 4 with my membership level.
