Drilled Well People, How old is your Pump

I have a 90 foot drilled well.

3/4 horse pump.

Google says 15 years for these pumps.

Had a new one installed in Early 2000.

Pump started acting up yesterday.

It's better today with a power reboot but yesterday was nice warning.

In 2000, I got no warning, just no water.

New pump, line and wire will be installed Tuesday by the same guy as before.

About $3,000 out of the car fund doh

The people down the road pay $100.00 a month for municipal water so I am not really complaining.

Their water rates have doubled in the last 2 years.

ssshhhhh.. Have to talk quietly so my well pump does not hear me, close to 20 years like yours so probably on borrowed time.
180 ft well. Hopefully will wait another year so other house projects can get done, LOL.

My well pump was installed in 1985. 125 ft deep and a3/4 hp. The. Company that did the complete installation told me it could last for 25 years or longer. Once a year I do a complete drain of the water system. Drain the hot water tank and the pressure tank and flush both getting rid of any sediment. I know the draining has nothing to do with the pump but it will increase the hot water element life. GSW is the pump brand.I can hook up to. city water but our water and sewer rates are very high plus my well water is pure with no chemicals added .Al

The village that I used to live in installed a water system to deliver treated lake water to the village with about 300 homes. I was billed a bit over $5500 to cover the cost of the water main installation past my property based on the road frontage. My house was built on top of the natural limestone and only had about a foot of soil on the front yard where the service would come into the house. Because I refused to hook up I was billed the base water rate of $40 a month. The township kept testing my water and it was always better than what they were trying to sell me. I wasnt the only holdout. Approximately half of the people in the affected area refused to hook up. After about three years we all received a lawyers letter quoting a clause in the Ontario Municipal Act that stated if services are available you must be hooked up and threatened legal action. I sold my house and moved 1 1/2 km down the road out of the affected area. The contractor that installed the water service into my old place said it was the worst he had ever done. I didnt ask the cost, but a neighbour paid almost $10,000, so I believe to install in my old place was higher.

Mine is about 10 years old and it's pretty deep- about 225 feet. The controller went the second year we were here. It was an old school one with relays. It had a bad capacitor. Luckily at the same time there was one for sale (solid state) on Kijij for $20. I was so greatful I gave the seller $30 as new replacements are well over 200 bucks.

One of the original wells made it self known about 3 years ago in our yard. A hole about 9 feet deep appeared. Shining a flashlight down you can see the brickwork of the perimiter of the old well. I'm hoping to get a well point and some pipe and a hand pump and see if I can create a shallow well for irrigation this year.

Our well is 127' deep. 3/4 HP Simer jet pump, 7 years old.

Our previous one crapped out after being installed sometime in the '80s.

Control box pictured is rated for 1/2 horsepower. Hope they supply the correct equipment. Our daughters well is 485 ft deep. The pump is suspended at 450ft. Their control system is electronic which allows soft starting for the pump. Its 10 years old now and no problems.

My 3/4 hp, 4W well pump is going strong after 31 years of service. The well is 148 deep, the pump is situated 60 down In the casing. Had a problem about 2 months ago. We pulled the pump and found a damaged wire was the culpri, about 10 above the pump. It rubbed on the casing due to the pump twist from start and stop torque on the pipe. Repaired and waterproofed the wire and sent the pump back down.

I was going to change the pump while I had it out, but I dont replace stuff just because. Im curious to see how long it will last. I did replace my gas hot water tank after 22 years, only because I was going to be working out of the country.

I have a gravity fed water supply at the place I bought and have not fully assessed the system yet. The pump does work but the pressure seems low. I will in the spring upgrade the filtration system and see what else can be improved. I have also ordered up a generac generator for those frequent outages.

Hi... Just some info for anyone with a drilled well. If you take the cap off, the info on the well should be stamped on a plate inside the cap. Along with that there is a registration number. You can google the website or call your local well driller and they will also give you the specs on your well...

Worked for a well  drilling outfit for about 4 years ( D.A.Smithson and sons ) as a HD mechanic but also helped drill a lot of wells. Back then it was about $12 a foot plus casing. Been out of it for over 30 years. But around her once over 200' in depth you had to go from plastic to steel pipe so the cost goes way up.. In BC and think most Provinces there is a government site that has all the wells registered with all the info about them. Mine in Jordan River is 720' and they hit water at 440' @ .5 gal a minute which is just enough for a household to live on. On the Vancouver Island you had to prove water before you could sell a lot or property. The rest of BC is not the same as our place in 100 mile  had no well.  Land without water is pretty much useless if you want to live on it...  As far as pump life,,too many factors. Height of lift.. static water lever, size of pump for what it's having to do... Most around here are 15+ years.  Figure my pump in JR will be around the 7-10 g mark once I get power in.

Our replacement 3/4 jet pump was nowhere near that amount (in the hundreds), and took about a half hour to replace.

my well is 125 feet deep. the pump is down 100 ft. ive been in the house 21 years. the pump has been replaced twice. the first time i watched the plumbers do it and i got changed close to $1500. the second time i was going through chemo and i did it myself and the price was only the pump probally around $300 from home hardware. i did it in feb. it was @#$#$%% cold. i would pull up 10 feet of hose and lay on it till i got my stamina back. usually 10 min then repeat. took about an hour for me to pull it all up. that was about 5 years ago. ill still do it myself again and im over 60
