Well, I think I might have caught it...

I'm thinking I might have caught the Omicron.

Last Friday as a family we sat down for my Father in laws 92'nd birthday. Come Monday, my niece, who sat two over from me, felt pretty crappy.

Turns out on that day, she heard from a friend she'd been with earlier in the week testing positive. Well.... today she tested positive.

Mine started with a little bit of a sore throat on Monday. You know, that feeling when you know something is not right, progressively moving to a very mild fever and headache, tiredness yesterday. Today, crappy in the morning, but I'm feeling really good as I type this. Just a runny nose, sneezing and watery eyes, maybe a little cough.

I rarely get sick, and when it starts coming on, it's usually ends up as a full on man cold (my wiles description). This time was strange, it never elevated past a point, just kind of came in and held at a certain level. Is this a result of two Astra's and a Pfizer boost? Maybe, or maybe just a seasonal cold? This might sound off, but I kind of hope it was covid. I can go and pay for a quick test, but I'm not going to bother taking up limited resources. I'm fine.

My daughter is training to be a PA (Physicians Assistant) and is currently learning at a hospital in Oakville. She got a PCR Test today and is awaiting the results to see if she can go back.

Anyone else having some mild symptoms?

Good luck, Ive heard of people with your symptoms testing negative and positive. Stay away from people in the interim, just in case.

Our son Parker stopped in here a few minutes ago. He was positive on Dec 30th. I thought he had said in a message to me at that time that he was free of symptoms but I was wrong. Mark, Parker's description of it was pretty much word for word what you are describing. He is vaccinated but never had his booster.

I just got the punch in the arm 4 hours ago. I really would like to catch it now just to get it over with for a while at least.

My son got it on Monday, he home tested on Tuesday and that confirmed it.

He said he had a sore throat and running nose.Tuesday he felt better.

Wednesday night he said he just had sniffles and feeling fine. He's staying at his home

and not leaving in the interm. He'll test again on Sunday. Luckily he managed to get some of those free rapid tests.

Unfortunate the 140 million rapid tests the Feds promised aren't out there as promised.

Alberta was counting on them this week when school restarted. Now the delay is for a few more weeks.

I think we have to resign ourselves at this point that everybody is going to get this and carry on with our lives.

Hard to carry on if you are severely health compromised. A good friend is severely compromised due to meds she is on, her husbands heart is shot and has been for years. Even a mild case would kill both of them. Walk a Mile in my shoes, Joe South.

If I could be you, if you could be me
For just one hour
If we could find a way
To get inside each other's mind
If you could see you through my eyes
Instead of your ego
I believe you'd be
Surprised to see
That you've been blind
Walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
And before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes
Now, your whole world
You see around you
Is just a reflection
And the law of Karma
Says you gonna reap
Just what you sow, yes you will
So unless you've lived a life
Of total perfection
You better be careful of every stone
That you should throw, yeah
And yet we spend the day throwing stones
At one another
'Cause I don't think or wear my hair
The same way you do
Well, I may be common people
But I'm your brother
And when you strike out and try to hurt me
It's hurtin' you, Lord have mercy
Walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes
There are people on reservations
And out in the ghettos
And brother, there
But for the grace of God
Go you and I, yeah, yeah
And if I only had the wings
Of a little angel, yeah
Don't you know I'd fly
To the top of the mountain
And then I'd cry, hey
Walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Better walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
Walk a mile in my shoes
Oh, before you abuse, criticize and accuse
Walk a mile in my shoes, yeah

True.

Even the flu would be terrible in those cases, let alone Omicron. Not to be taken lightly.

I dont believe Ray was being callous, just the sentiment that we are all done with the fear mongering and over zealous controls put into place. Understand that I am immune compromised being a diabetic and having an autoimmune disorder. Ive had two AZ shots and a Phizer booster, wear my mask in public not because I like it but as I feel it is the right thing to do.

My middle child and her boyfriend came down with it 2 weeks ago. She was sick for a week and her boyfriend was fine after two days. Just felt crappy as noted above.

Now back to our regular program.....

Btw, my daughter was negative. Today, I've just sniffles.

I still think there's a good chance it's covid, in that is was strange how it progressed then stopped dead in it's tracks. Never had that in the past.

Didnt mean Ray was callous, just pointing out that in learning to live with Covid, we are all starting from a different place. Do whatever works for you in your circumstances, as long as you dont increase the risk to others.

Glad you're feeling better, Mark.

The people who study this stuff as their life's work say that the shots help prevent severe illness for those prone to it from the virus.  Hopefully it's our way out of Covid as I know everyone is burnt out on this, especially those whose jobs it is to look after us when we become severely ill.  Huge burnout coming in the first responder/healthcare fields.

Hang in there, everybody, it hasn't been fun but there are better days ahead.  Just remember we all want to stay friends after all this is over, so hopefully we can respect others' opinions and not become a divided group over it.  smile

I'm in the same situation as Eric... Also a diabetic , and heart disease . I've had my shots the Pfizer booster, and also wear my mask in public as we are told to do . I'm waiting for my turn to get Covid, as we are all going to get it eventually .

My concern now , is that my son does NOT get Covid in the next 4-8 weeks . He is very vulnerable now as he just recently had open heart surgery ( after 2+ years on the waiting list ). In hindsight , it would have been better if he had contracted covid before his operation .

Not sure where you are from, but if it helps Lifelabs will still do testing for free in Hamilton (at least) if you are close contact, or have symptoms, or tested positive with a rapid test. I had to get my kids tested when my wife and niece tested positive on a rapid test, called to book an appointment and they said we are not eligible and we have to pay a drug store to do it. Called up Lifelabs and they basically said the same thing BUT they are still doing it for free at their expense to help people out.

I don't know how far they reach out, but with a little research there may be other places in our local areas willing to the PCR test still for free.

Matthew, on a totally different topic, if your avatar is a pic of your car, we need to see it as a feature car on Canadian Poncho!

It is, I was told I should submit something, but I got lazy and then totally forgot. It's going to be a whole different beast in the spring, so I should submit it while it's still all original.

Edit : I wasn't really lazy, I just spent every spare second driving the car and not writing about it lol. Then when I put it away, I forgot.

Excellent, if you have pics please get them to Todd with as much story/history etc you have on the car! The feature car is SO much fun, it's a big favourite on this site.
