Am I missing something here?

Is the market that nuts that a wrecked 99 Buick Lesabre with airbag deployment is worth $13500? It has to be $1350 yet his headline also says $13500....

Beautiful 1999 Buick LeSabre custom for sale. Minor front end damage along with air bag despoliation results in a below market value price of $13,500. These 1999 Buick LeSabres were in high demand back in the day and still are one of the best cars General Motors produced. Pick this up now and have something to be proud of.

Or how about this "low mileage" (yet rusty) 92 Bonneville for $12000?

Decided to put a feeler out to see if there is any interest in my 1992 Pontiac Bonneville SE. Car has super low mileage and doesnt need a thing but a driver. Looking for offers over $12,000, any lower than that I will put the car back in my warehouse for safe keeping.

Even $1350 is a bit rich on that Buick.

I saw this as well and thought, no can't be 15k, must be 1500.  But, I think he means 15K.  I don't understand how anyone would even entertain paying 15K for this car.  Covid is making everyone crazy I guess.

Beautiful Cutlass, I love those. Not one thing I would want to change about that car, he even has the best wheels on it.

We had an older parts guy at a Chev Olds dealer I worked at in 2000. He referred to these rear drive Cutlass' as "A true Cutlass". If you needed a part for say an 85 he'd say " A true Cutlass?". That's how he differentiated between these and the Ciera version.

A kijiji ad costs what? Zero. I think a lot of people are just throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.

I wonder sometimes how many ads are there to inflate the price. Say I have an '92 Bonneville. Not many listed on kijiji. Maybe one for sale on the other coast for $1100.

I can gather a few pictures, post ads from different locations. Asking prices ranging from say $10,000 to $20,000. People call, I tell them it sold first day, sorry should have pulled the ad. After a month of "selling" a dozen cars, I slip my real car into an ad for $7,000. Seems like a deal!

I think there are a whole lot of speculators out there hoping to catch somebody at an emotional/nostalgic moment, hoping to get a panic-buy from somebody who thinks they won't see another one again.  That said, the ones Todd posted go above and beyond that, into a higher world of crazy.

Again, IMHO the whole collector car world has gone a little nuts since the pandemic began.  To me, having the norm for desirable collector cars to be $40K, $50K, and up is a little much, but if that's what people are willing and able to pay, who am I to say it's wrong.  There are cheaper ways to get into the hobby, or many other hobbies out there to focus your energies on (the direction I'm heading).

But yeah, a rusty FWD Bonneville for $12K?  That's just fodder for comedy.  Heck, it's not even the desirable model with the sporty stuff and supercharger (SSEi, I think?).  biggrin

I can't fault anyone for pricing to the moon, I mean, one never knows.

But beyond the wild price, it's just that underlying hint of arrogance, or the taking us for fools that always seems to accompany these adds that make them appear greedy or misleading.

If your are so confident in that price, no need to educate us. Leave it as is.

I am going to watch this one

https://maxsold.maxsold.com/auction/40504/item/chevy-el-camino-3719979

This very rusty ElCamino is up for auction, description says original 350 engine, but its got a Buick under the hood!

I am curious in these crazy times what someone will pay. The cap if its in good condition in my opinion is worth more than the ElCamino.

Paul

Ok, I'm really starting to worry! This one popped up tonight:

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/saint-john/a-real-drivers-car-1987-pontiac-6000-le/1602159430

Absolutely flawless nineteen eighty seven Pontiac six thousand LE for sale. Absolute stunner of a car with a manunal transmission and 8 finger intake mod. Before anyone sends an offer, if you are a richy rich kid do not even apply. I want this car to go to a person that would highly respect it and hopefully hand it down to another person in the future. The price is $21,000. If you dont like the price keep on scrooling.

Actually I've been thinking about that. The clincher is shipping. I asked a guy what he'd charge to transport 5 cars from one location to mine from Victoria. Typically one car is 5 grand. Guy wanted 5 grand per car! No volume discount. Believe it or not it's used Rav4's that are selling like crazy here in PEI
