Oil Capacities

I am in processes of installing a refreshed 1960 261 'Strato-Six'.  It has a remote oil filter.  The Pontiac manual says 4qt plus one for the filter.  I have 5qts in it and the dipstick is right at the 'low' mark.  Either I have the wrong dipstick, or perhaps this should take 6qt, like a truck engine.  The oil pan looks to be the same as a 235 truck engine.  The dipstick was not installed when I got the engine, but it's 15-3/4" under the washer to the tip and 14" to the 'Full' mark.  The tube is 8.1" long, with 7-3/8" exposed above the block.  Hard to tell if I have the wrong dipstick, or not enough oil!

Any suggestions?
