License Plate Renewal

The Ontario Gov't is issuing free renewal after March 13th and refunds from plate payment renewals from March 2020. I wonder what will come next??????

I can see them not requiring new stickers every year (Alberta started that a couple years ago), but not having to pay for renewal? Seems a bit odd.

THATS A BIG LOSS OF REVENUE  !

THEY WILL MAKE IT UP SOME WHERE ELSE.

YOU CAN BE SURE OF THAT.

I just paid to renew stickers for 5 vehicles last week. Looking forward to my refund.

Stickers disappeared in Manitoba a few years ago but nothing changed with renewals. We are still on an annual premium with registrations on a 5 year term.

The only new thing we are experiencing is receiving rebates over the last couple of years with surpluses on the Public Insurers books due to Covid.

The only charge I can see being reduced or eliminated is the annual registration fee. We now pay that fee every five years instead of annually.

And no more stacking stickers on our plates!

Police patrol cars are now equipped with the technology to constantly interrogate vehicle license plates and alert officers to discrepancies.

The only rub with that is a likely increase in violations for snow-covered or illegible plates!

With Ontario moving to no renewal fees, does that mean no need to renew?

We can rest assured that they will take money some where else
that is a lot of money they are giving up, I can remember years
ago that you did not need stickers or had to renew every year even
have a paper sticker on the 52 that they issued then for the metal
shortage of the Korean War it was located on the lower corner of the
windshield.

My Dad had a gas ration sticker on his 40 Ford, maybe Doug will go there next? $300 a year for a gas ration sticker?

If they remove front plates the commercial plates are currently issued for the front then what? Also Doug is eliminating the tolls on the two 400 series highways that provide access to the expensive 407. One trip from Oshawa to Hamilton and return runs close to $100.00 depending on time of day

Beware that everything has a cost! I read online that the Ontario government is going to require annual safety inspections in lieu of license fees! It may be a rumour but I wouldnt be surprised if its true. I have four plated vehicles so that would mean four annual inspections!

Commercial plates here on tractor trailers are only on the front of the tractor, may already be that way in Ontario. You cant see the back one with a trailer there.

This is only talk until the election happens. Could all be reinstated once the election is over.
