Are they really worth that? Only asking because I have (3) 396 engines. (1) 1966 and (2) 1967 all Chevelle engines

A stock rebuild if you do it all yourself except machining of course, and if you replace everything including valves etc will run $2500 - $3000 for machine work and parts.

And that was for my 427 2 years ago. Prices may be up by now but also I think 427 is about the most expensive Mark IV rebuild. I think 454 stuff (pistons for example) is cheaper.

Wow. Someone got a great buy if the motor was rebuilt, as claimed. Seems pointless to have done the work if it was to be sold.

Yes,  that was a good buy for a fresh rebuilt complete 396 .

I spent over $6 K on a L36 427 build and $8500 on a L72 427 build. ( This was years ago , and the engines are still sitting on stands - uninstalled )

If you're lucky enough to find one locally , even better.  These days , freight will drive the price up considerably if your trying to source the right parts from across the country ( or USA)

Trusting someone elses rebuild can be a problem too. If he has bills from a trusted engine builder to see how far they went. Fresh coat of paint known as a CIL rebuild

I just picked one up in Halifax yesterday. It was all done with tons of bling and all the accessories except carb. It was destined for a 69 chevelle ss but he decided to go LS.

No I got this one from my buddy in Ardoise. I seem to recall a collection of big block stuff in your fathers shop.He didnt want to part with any of it but he let me have a beauty of a 6 banger.

Yes we still have a bunch of big blocks, even some W motors now as well. Using one in a 55 gasser tribute at some point. That 6 banger shouldnt have left the yard, but whatcha gonna do? Win some lose some!
