69 2+2 Stripes - Revisited

In 2016, the topic of stripe color and size, was previously discussed here. I am finally getting around to having new stripes done for my car. In the previous post, user 'Willard' supplied a photo of the original stripes on his 2+2, with a tape measure beside them. It gave a general idea of the stripe widths and gap sizes between the 3 stripes, but was not exact and would be a guess. I would like to come up with documented measurements of these stripes, before I spend money on having them made. I reached out to 'Willard', for an exact remeasure of his stripes (if he still has the car), but the last time he was on the site was January 11. I think 'Davepl' might have exact measurements, but he has not been on here since January 22. I know 'the dentist', with the white 69 2+2 427-390hp 4-speed, would also know. I met up with him when I lived in Michigan, and sold him an NOS quarter panel, but lost his information.no If anyone has the exact measurements or can get a hold of them, that would be great! It would also, be usable and documented information for future restorers! Thanks!

I WILL CHECK AND SEE IF I HAVE SOME DOCUMENTATION FOR THE STRIPES. IF NOT, I HAVE A CAR WITH ORIGINAL STRIPES STILL ON IT AND CAN MAYBE GET SOME MORE PRECISE MEASUREMENTS FOR YOU.

I WILL CHECK INTO THIS OVER THE WEEKEND, SO GIVE ME A FEW DAYS IF NO ONE ELSE CAN HELP IN THE MEANTIME.

No real hurry Mike. I really appreciate anything you can come up with. Thanks!

HERE IS WHAT I CAME UP WITH,

1969 2+2_1.jpgDSC_0034_1.jpgDSC_0036_1.jpg

FROM THE TOP

WHITE STRIPE IS 1/8"

1/8" GAP - BODY COLOR

SILVER STRIPE IS 1/4"

1/4" GAP - BODY COLOR

BOTTOM SILVER STRIPE IS CONSISTANT 3" UNTIL THE REAR QUARTER, REAR QUARTER STARTS AT 3" AND TAPERS DOWN TO 2" IN-LINE FROM WHERE THE UPPER 2 SMALLER STRIPES END.

HOPE THIS HELPS.

Thanks Mike! It does help a lot! I also contacted 427pont and he said he would get back to me with some measurements too. Thanks again for the pictures and measurements!

I would like to thank Dave (pont427), who owns the low mileage white, 69 2+2, 390hp 427 4-speed, and Mike (68 427), who also owns a low mileage 69 2+2, for their help in assembling the following measurements and pictures from their factory original striped cars. I have outlined the measurements in the attached images. If anybody would like a PDF of this information, PM me your email and I will send it to you. I know this is not information that is needed by the majority of members, but for those of us 69 2+2 owners, hopefully it will be helpful.

I went through all of this a few years ago getting my stripes figured out. They had been removed on my car but the original stripe overlaps in the jams and door edges front and rear were still present and I used them to size and position the stripes. I also found a bunch of factory paint and stripe photos to be able to figure out what the shape and taper were at the front and rear extremities. I installed the new stripes I had made at the height of the original overlaps. Mine were a bit higher than in your photos (more or less as the factory literature indicated they should go), perhaps there was some discretion left to the installer or perhaps they realized that the upper edge of the fat stripe was prone to lifting on the body crease so they lowered the placement. My car is a very early build.

p.s. the lighting makes the stripes look like they are all the same color but they are actually the correct two color set up.
