Sometimes the internet just...............

On a different site tonight---

Shop owner posts pictures/video of a car he's working on for a customer, a 1966 Impala Super Sport convertible with a 427/425 4 speed. Rare car!

Below is our conversation word for word (before I deleted it when I realized I was dealing with a troll).  I thought I was encouraging, not criticizing, but I guess not biggrin

Me

"Very cool car. It looks so original I was surprised to see the wrong shifter handle in it. It has a bench seat handle instead of a console handle."

Him

"Yes, he just upgraded that."

Me

"Excellent, because it looks so authentic it was a shame to have that one in there!"

Him

"Yeah, we really should just junk the whole car"

Me

"Don't get defensive, I'm not being critical, I'm trying to help make this thing perfect like it deserves to be. If it's authentic, it's such a rare car it deserves to be perfect. Wow..."

Him

"Do you have the correct shifter in your 66?

Me

"Yes, why do you ask?"

Him

"In your 66 Impala SS 427/425 hp car"

Me

"??? My 66 has the correct shifter, why did it suddenly have to be all about how my car isn't an SS 427/425 hp 4 speed. I'm done, enjoy an internet p*ssing match with someone else."

Its just the way it is Carl, some car guys just ain't worth talking to. You know who they are real quick. This is why I really to avoid show and shines with lots of restored muscle cars.

I just find it weird that for some guys, a cheaply built-mass produced piece of steel that was built to haul peoples asses around has morphed  into some kind of priceless artifact.

It's funny Carl that after the trouble I went through to put the correct handle in my 65 bench, like you, I kind of got educated on what should be there...

It's kind of become a easy tell tale of other things when you see the wrong handle, and the car is advertised as fully restored or original. I can see it from a mile away, and it happens quite often. It's easy corrected, yet they don't bother.

And sadly, today, more often than not, some guys just won't take any conversation to the contrary, even when your intent is only good.
