My Son bought a toy today

Looks like another machine to tinker with:

Tractor.jpg

We got her home this morning - a 1975 Ford 3000 tractor. 3cyl diesel, 8 speed etc etc. Runs good and well maintained. The seller also thew in a bushhog attachment (needs work), grader and push blade

My son has big plans for our land and this will come in handy. It's our first tractor so we'll have some learning to do. Ironically the flat deck driver who delivered it is a red seal diesel tech who worked on these all the time.

He gave it his approval and was really helpful giving us tips on maintenance and operation. My son already ordered a shop manual and we downloaded the user manual online. It's really hard to find a decent tractor at a decent price here in PEI. Seller said he had 24 inquiries after mine. There's no dickering in prices these days unfortunately but we did get it for a fair price.

I love tractors! And from what I hear, those Fords are an excellent choice.

What does the Bushhog need?

Every time I get into my old 1972 Massey Ferguson I start humming the Green Acres theme.

I've had it for about 20 years now. It  has the three cylinder Perkins (easiest starting diesel ever!) with cab, bucket and blade and I must say it has come in really handy this year with all the snow. Indispensable on a acreage for sure.

Good score!

To be honest I haven't had a close look at it yet. Our ground is still too soft to move any of the implements with the tractor (although both son and I took it for a brief rip around the place). Once I get them moved I'll have a better look at the bush hog to determine what it needs.

Be sure to change the injection pump oil. The CAV/Simms pump is lubricated by its own oil and it should be changed regularly. I would by a maintenance/lubrication manual. I have seen a couple of injection pumps totally ruined by lack of oil.
