For the Calgary area who's an collector car appraiser that you would highly recommend?

Looks like values of collector cars are going up and to make sure I

get the right value for my car I will need an appraisal for my car.

So I don't get shortchanged by the insurance company I need to get it done.

I presently have an agreed value that needs to be brought into the real world.

Any recommendations for a collector car appraiser that you would recommend

in the Calgary area?

Thanks,

-G

I wouldn't recommend anyone local. They bad-mouth each other, were always jacking up their rates, and some have very limited computer proficiency to type or email their own appraisals. And heaven forbid you ask for a .PDF copy.

There used to be two big players in the Calgary area - as far as I know they are both retired.
Nelson Racing (Fred)
and
Appreciated Automobile Appraisals (Allen)

I believe I last spoke to Fred a couple years ago when he was selling his trademark vehicle - a yellow chopped '57 Nomad (if you went to shows in the last twenty years, it should have been a familiar site) - He never was a part of the show, but would often set up near, or on the outskirts of a show to get business. I do not know if he has sold his Nomad - iirc he was a regular sponsor of the cruise calendar.

I spoke to Allen a couple months ago on kijiji, I am pretty sure he didn't have a clue who I was, but I immediately recognized him.

If my memory serves me, Allen's appraisals looked better, where as Fred's looked more "Mickey mouse";
I also seem to remember that Fred put alot more work into market values ect, and I felt that his appraisals were much more trustworthy.

I also found that Fred was a easy guy to talk to, where as Allen would argue with you till he was blue in the face if you contradicted anything he said.

If there was any bad mouthing, of which I don't recall hearing, I could see why one party would do it, and that the other party would probably get miffed at being bad mouthed.

If there is any reputable appraiser, I'm all ears - I'd love to grab one of their cards... you just never know when a good appraisal will come in handy.

I have not personally used this company for appraisals, but dealt with him on another car/collector related transaction that went very well.

Vanishing Vintage a Calgary based company.

I have a copy of my brother-in-laws appraisal of his 1975 Laguana. It a nice piece of work.

Pages about the car, pages about the market value,lot of pictures and information about the car model and production.

Is this what I can expect to get from a appraisal from a Calgary car collector appraiser?

Here's one that comes highly recommended:

Bill Knecht at Appreciated Vehicle Appraisal Group. 403-680-4083 (Langdon)
Bill organizes the World of Wheels, and does excellent appraisals.

Just a small correction.  Allen is with A. Auto Appraisals.

 Bill is a pillar in the community!

Between his organizing of the World of Wheels and volunteer work assisting with the Grey Eagle car show (which are now back on every Wednesday night), you couldn't ask for a more well rounded and qualified guy.

/\ good to know.
I used to be heavily involved with the Calgary Firebird Club - back when we would have yearly involvement with WOW;
I think i still have my parking pass from helping the CFC with the 2004 - which was the year I got in an accident with my Firebird, and after which I stepped back from any real involvement with that club (because what's the point of being a paid member of a car-specific club, when you have dry-docked that car?!)
