Stripe Colour Debate!

Ok. Picture this. A 1968 Beaumont SD 396, Butternut Yellow, WHITE top.

Do you put White Stripes or Black Stripes? What do you think would look better. my wife and I were thinking white.....

I have a Buick that was factory white vinyl top, white interior, butternut yellow or maize (same same)-but I think the white stripe would blend in too much-these cars in butternut with black stripes are awesome jmo

Alrighty then...... because my wife is involved well all need to compromise and decide this fair and square.
One of the other users, Barry (694279), a Guru, also said black. But the 6 votes for black makes it even steven when the wifes vote counts as white.
Soooo, Barry lives in my town and has both white and black stripes. Once we get the white vinyl installed, well put on the white stripes. If no good, well go with the black stripes.
Ill post picks with the white. The car might not have as much of a muscle car appeal, but it sure does not sound lame when rumbling at the stop light ready to pounce.

Black is the way by vote. But we live in Canada, so what does it matter what you vote for! Lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the stripe supposed to much the tail panel on this year Beaumont. I seem to remember white tail panel, white stipe.

Black panel, black stripe. I think it would look strange to mix them, just my personal opinion.

71F2CCF7-5773-42D9-A640-CE0D3AFDD66A.jpegHeres a 70 Chevelle with white stripes on Gobi Beige. The stripes dont pop out at you the same way as black would, not enough contrast for me.

It is supposed to be white vinyl top. But I do not see anywhere what the striping (if any) is supposed to be.

here are a couple digitized pictures we are using to make the decision

Thanks for this! I was looking high and low for Beaumonts with white tops, to see what it would look like. Did not even think to search up the Chevelle cousin.

Hmmm, was just checking out the article on Hemmings about the 68 SD convertible, his has white top, white stripes, and black tail panel. I guess you would get what they gave you.

The various sales literature should indicate what color the stripes should be dependent on body / roof color.

Thank you Mr. White. It has been decided. We will try the white.

even though the colour code for the top was originally black (not white like I originally was made to believe), white is the choice that will also turn some heads as it will be unique, one of A kind, and look more beautiful in the Florida sunshine.

Thanks to everybody for their input. No disrespect to all the gurus and car aficionados. But it is a beautiful car either way. the wife is happy. And now the car is custom to the Beaumont family (literally).

Well post pictures as the car goes through stages of reparation.

Thanks Ian. For a split second your suggestion was considered......that is, for 0.5 seconds the car was named Dominoe.
