If you're selling a car and someone asks you for a vehicle report there's a bunch of scammers out there who have no intention of showing up to see the car but convinced you to get a report from the company they tell you to submit your vehicle info to. After falling for it twice,I'm embarassed to say, I decided to submit the info from a written off non registerable car and sure as hell, I got an all clear, good to go. Seventeen pages of balony I printed out and some 35 or 40 dollars later , it was worth it to see if my suspicions were correct. Guy contacted me on my Cadillac and tried it so I told him I'm reporting his game to the Better Business Bureau. No reply. A friend of mine added to my embarassment by reminding me you can get any history of a saskatchewan car for free from SGI. Don't know how easy to get that info is in other provinces though. I'd be wary if someone selling a car shows me one of those bogus reports too. Scammers.....they never miss an opportunity.
I had them try that with me last year when I listed my 85 pickup. They were very persistent for a few days until I finally took the ad down. We will see what happens when I list the truck this time lol
I appreciate the heads up on this Ken. I'm planning to advertise our 97 Silverado in the not too distant future. We just did our Trans Am but that ad was only up about 2 days, so maybe the scammers didn't even see it.

Hi Guys, I may be a little thick in the head or just exhausted from typical 10+ hour work day but what is it the scammers would do with the bogus vehicle report? Would they use it for another vehicle or to get VIN onto a damaged/written off vehicle of the same make/model? Or is it just that the vehicle report company is bogus and they scam you out of the $35 or $40?
For what it's worth in BC you can get an ICBC basic report for $20 but they support CARFAX as well for a more comprehensive Lien and cross Canada search for $81. It's gone up since last time I've used it but for any car I've been super serious about I would typically spend the money as a couple of times it's found out of Province info that was helpful in making my decision.

A new(er) truck in your future??? Used trucks in BC are getting crazy $$. Good luck with the sale.
Plenty of scammers out there when you post an online ad, I no longer put my phone # in ads due to several times receiving scams by text. They want your contact information to use to do scams on other people. I figured one scammer out and found the real person who said they had created a lot of problems for him.
