Anyone here own a late model Canyon/Colorado?

If so, how do you like it?

My wife's mobility issues are to the point the G8 is likely going to be sold. It's not much fun for her to get in and out of. The Trans Am sold last week. We will likely sell the G8 and are considering a Canyon/Colorado crew cab as our "car".  At that point the 97 Silverado will also be sold because we sure don't need 2 trucks.

What a horrible time to be shopping for a late model/new truck. I can't believe the prices of them.

Our son just took delivery in March of a 2022 Canyon Crew Cab, 4x4, 6 ft box. He waited 2 months for them to find him one. It  has the 308 hp V6. Drives and feels like a full size truck. Plenty of room(Hes 6ft 5) and lots of power. Uses 9 to 11 litre/100 km depending on highway or city driving. I think 3 adults shoulder to shoulder in the back would be snug but plenty of space for 2 adults and a child. Middle of the line for options and trim was still $50K to drive it off the lot.

1 asked for one at work to have a smaller truck For what I was doing. Lots of power but truly did not see a lot less gas mileage from the full size. That said a kid at work bought one with the Duramax in it and he is in the 6 liter to 100km range. After hitting a deer I went back to a full size. I would consider buying a full size and having it lowered

As much as I love the new GM pickups they're just to big and bulky for our purpose. This will take the place of our car and also serve as a truck when I need one. There's still room in the back for an engine when I need to haul one, it can still pull my car trailer, the little bit that I do that now.

When I parked the 2022 in the garage beside our 1997 extended cab it looked to be about 9" shorter than the 1997, pretty much perfect in my thinking. I'm really choking on the $50,000+ by the time it's taxed etc. But with one year old trucks commanding 90% of the cost of a new one, to me that's an easy choice just to buy new if this is the direction we take. I sure don't hear much negative about these trucks. If I have one complaint after putting about 200 miles on the one we tried out, its the firm ride. Pretty stiff ride...

Just a concideration,  my mom(with similar mobility issues) does pretty good getting in the 91 silverado,  it has the big aluminum runningboards which she says are the best thing going for climbing in,  and if you could find a 4x4 with a A-pillar mounted grab handle to install on yours,  it might help alot.

Yes Carl, prices are crazy for used stuff. A friend of mine wants to replace his wifes car. Saw a used Hyundai Venue on a dealer lot here, a new car dealership but not a Hyundai dealer. They liked the car and decided to check the Hyundai dealer. A new one with about a two month wait was 3K cheaper than the two year old one!

I know how much you like your G8. Have you considered an air ride suspension conversion? Would enable you to raise the car to assist in entry and exit. The Silverado could remain in the fleet as well? Just a thought.

The only problem with that is, our extended cab doesn't really serve well as a car when we take adult friends along, or our kids. In our boys case one is 6'4", one is 6'2", our daughter is 5'10" and the back of a 97 extended cab is kind of tight unless we move the seats way up. And that is no fun because I'm over 6 feet and Jo is 5' 11". We really need to be able to seat 4 people pretty much 6' tall. It's not a great situation!

Our friend has MS and they bought a Toyota Highlander because he can access it quite well. I love that vehicle and we'd likely consider one but if I don't have a truck you might as well shoot me. A truck and a workshop are not luxuries, they are necessities. We might as well go down to one vehicle because it's so rare to be using both of them at the same time. Eventually my wife will retire from her part time job and at that time 2 vehicles will be almost pointless.

I'd like to have a word with the guy who said something about growing old could be graceful...... Retirement is fun but all that goes along with aging? Not so fun!!!

That doesn't solve my truck problem though. If we go down to one vehicle, it has to be a truck.

Buy a small trailer for hauling engines and stuff. My neighbor pulls his with his 55 Chevy 2 door post, it has a 350 in it. That 66 should pull a trailer.

I do have a little 7 foot galvanized trailer. I just like the idea of a pickup. Stuff seems so much more secure in the box.

When we had our cabin I hauled 100 lb propane tanks. Did it a couple of times with the trailer but the truck was much nicer for that.

When I haul an engine I like to put it in a pickup, slide it to the front of the box and strap it down good. On my little trailer if I was hauling a big block (naturally) that would be a bit much tongue weight for it.

No hitch on the 66!

hi Carl - - there does seem to be some discussion on the internet about transmission problems on these trucks- from what I can tell these problems started to get reported more  frequently starting in the 2019 model year onward

if this is a real issue this would be a dissapointment to me - the newer colorado /canyon would be my go to truck if i had to find a replacement for my 2008 colorado-

We had them here in Australia as a Holden Colorado until GM canned Holden. We only had them with the tiny little 2.8L Duramax diesel, they stopped fitting the V6 petrol engine a few generations earlier.

Like any of these tiny trucks, they are good around town but not up to towing much, simply not enough power or torque. I still have my Toyota equivalent (called a Hilux) that is a 4.0L V6 with a TRD supercharger fitted, it needed the supercharger to make it good enough to tow 2200kg easily, however it still got pushed around by the load as they aren't real heavy vehicles.

Harrop in Australia were tooling up to start offering LS3 and LSA conversions in them but Holden's end killed that. I was going to buy one and get it converted to an LS3 but no go. I have since bought a 2022 Ram 1500 with 5.7 Hemi.

The Colorado or Canyon will be fine for you for everyday use, not a lot of back seat room though. Won't be real fuel efficient with the V6 petrol engine (at least compared to the Duramax) and like any of these probably doesn't have a real tough transmission.

An older Tacoma might suit you? Not a lot of rear leg room either, but the 4.0L V6 VVTi engine and A750F 5spd auto are bulletproof, just don't tow without fitting an aftermarket transmission oil cooler (same with any of these though).

The other car that might suit is a 2WD Ram 1500 classic Crew Cab. They are priced about the same as the smaller offerings from Ford, Toyota. GM etc. The Tradesman or Express Crew cab models have heaps of rear leg room and are really comfortable to drive (Quad cab is small in the back), and if you get one with a 5'7" tub they are big but not huge. You can get them with the 3.6L V6 or 5.7 Hemi. You can order them with an electronics group package that gets you a really good display screen and dual zone climate which is great when you like it cool and mrs wants it warm! AMP research make a really neat set of powered steps for them too that make them a lot more user friendly to get in and out of.

I have a 2011 Canyon with the factory 5.3 V8 and its a blast to drive. It is easy to get in and out of for sure but I do not find the seat as comfortable as my 1995 or the 2016. It maybe because the truck only has19,000 miles on it.

Is a certified cheque ok or does it have to be cash?

Maybe I can trade a 427 4 speed Strato Chief?

Just kidding. (About the Strato Chief, not kidding about the rest!)

Are you still pursuing this vehicle change? Curious as to new vehicle availability in Manitoba currently? Not much to drive off the lots here on the island.

The lots are pretty much empty here in PEI too.

It's pretty slim pickings here too.  It's not a great time to buy but we really won't have a choice, we're slowly getting cornered.
