PEI ferry caught fire

https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.6528847

Was almost at Wood IslandS terminal when an engine fire occurred. The captain ran it aground and everyone got off ok. Theyll have to refloat it to get their cars off.

The harbour  there is likely soft mud so hill should not be damaged. Todd lives not far from here I believe.

Yes, I've ridden that ferry and Todd is only minutes away.

Yes. Lots of excitement today. My house and work are only 5 minutes away. I heard lots of sirens and then saw a military plane circling about. I had a bad feeling a boat was in trouble. I was shocked to hear it was one of the ferries. The Holiday Island should have been retired years ago. It's been plagued with mechanical issues and corrosion problems for years. I'm told the fire started in the engine room. It was run aground deliberatly to prevent sinking.  I'm happy nobody was injured and feel bad for all the folks who now have to wait ot get their vehicles. Imagine travelling across country in your motorhome and not it's stuck on there..
As you can see she was pretty much loaded up.

Quoted from the article:

'No obvious damage' to vehicles

Tugboats successfully towed the ship into a harbour berth in Wood Islands on Sunday morning.

On Sunday afternoon, passenger vehicles could be seen rolling off of the ferry. Cormier said that the removal would probably be completed Sunday afternoon and that there appeared to be "no obvious damage" to the vehicles.

Eighty-three vehicles were on the ship. Northumberland Ferries said Saturday all pets were rescued and there was no livestock or dangerous cargo on board.

Some of the passengers were waiting at the Wood Islands harbour on Sunday to check on their vehicles and belongings.

A total of 258 people were evacuated from the ship as it was making its way toward Wood Islands on Friday, with no major injuries reported.
