Umm... anyone question how a mini van is going 211 ? I want to meet the "tuner". Any bets the ticket gets tossed.

I agree, I can't see how it could go that fast. I was just out for my walk and was walking with another car guy discussing exactly that. I would have guessed it had a factory shutoff around 160 km/h.

It looks like an early 2000s VW Golf. And it would be more than capable of doing that speed and probably more. If it did have a speed limiter it would have been set for the speed rating of the original equipment tires. Thank goodness nobody was hurt or killed!

My beetle diesel would do 200kph. My 2003 Passat gas would lay rubber all the way to redline in 1st gear, both front tires. It was a 1.8 turbo, extremely good on fuel, that Golf must have been a gas turbo. The manual in the glove box of the 2003, VW said to achieve top speed, use 4th in the 5 speed manual. No rev limiter. 15 years old.

Most modern fuel injected vehicles with the automatic, anyone can drive them and they are fast, unless they have a computer speed limiter Id say there are many vehicles that would go this fast.

Mahone Bay, NS Still not old enough to need an automatic

I think most of the family type vehicles are limited to around 160 km/h because of the low speed rating on the tires. Seems to me the pickups were all limited around there for years, not sure if they still are.

The Ford F550 trucks in use when I was working would cut out at about 135 km/hr, roughly about 85 mph. There was one driver that complained that it would cut out on the highway and I asked how fast he was going. He didnt give me an answer and never complained again.

None of my vws had a cutout. Have not owned a car with a cutout, maybe 3 pedal cars dont need them as they are operated by such good drivers.

My 63 from factory had an unlimited tow capacity and unlimited speed rated bias ply tires. My 1959 El Camino had a 15,000KG GVWR on the NS registration, I guess the motor vehicle people couldnt find a gvwr in their books? I wouldnt feel right towing 1500 lbs with the 59. Todays tires are 1000% better than the old 63 bias ply, most really do not need a speed rating imho.

GM even has had a speed governor for decades.

I'm pretty sure you have it right. When I looked at the picture tonight I realized there's no sliding door on the side like a van would have.

And I was reading the top speeds for those Golfs. Wow, they have some speed!
