Went to PEI to see my Moms sister and her 2 daughters visiting from Maine. When leaving, we decided to see Victoria By The Sea, then to visit up West in PEI, so skipped across toward the north side. In PEI there are a bunch of small roads everywhere, red dirt roads, no ditches, no gravel surface, very unique roads. We visited Maple Plains, home of Tim Hortons famous location (if you listened to CBC weekend mornings with Stan Carew) plus Trill Hill Road. It had rained the night before and you could see that at noonish, we were the first to travel there on the bright red mud. You NEVER go there in spring, even with a 2wd tractor, maybe a 4wd. This public roads look like farm roads but they are public and are scrapped smooth after drying up in the spring by the province. 

If you are ever in PEi amd you see a red gravel fork in the road, take it. Carefully.
