1998 Silverado 4L60E wire harness metal clip

I disconnected the 2 wire harness connectors that are next to the shift cable, one has a metal horseshoe shaped clip that is the lock for that connector. The old one is rusted, I can't find a new one anywhere. I checked the GM dealer, NAPA, and online at Rockauto etc. Nothing. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Don

It was rusty and stuck in the electrical connector, I abused it on removal. It should be equal length on both sides, like a staple with longer sides. I may have to make one.

Show us a pic of the connector too. That 'horseshoe" may not be required to hold it together...

Some of those connectors, usually coloured, are a safety catch. The piece had to be removed and then the plastic tit pushed down with a small screwdriver after removal of the piece.

If all else fails, use a piece of heat shrink tubing to hold it together......

OK! I finally got a vehicle in to address your issue. I am sure the clip you are looking for is attached to the actual shift cable where it goes into the mounting bracket on the transmission itself. There are no metal clips on the neutral park switch, just CPA plastic retainers. The part number of the clip is 23281508. I'm sure that's what you need.

And of course, the last pic had to flip 90 degrees! lol

Thank you Vincent, looks like the right part and looks like my memory is worse than I thought it was.

Lol The purpose of the clip is to keep those plastic retaining ears in the outward position so the cable does not slip through the bracket. As well as providing a little extra support.

There goes my "good idea" !!!

That is an unusual and weird piece. I've never had the opportunity to work on something like that....

On second thought.... Would a nylon zip tie, or a metal one(?) work, if you can't find an original?

I've used a thicker teflon tie in a pinch when they are already missing... but, new ones are still available from GM. $10 or so.
