I just picked up a 66 180 casting 327 short block at all places a yard sale. It was on a stand in the back of her garage along with other yard sale fodder. I asked about and she said her late husband was into cars and its been sitting there for years. I asked if it was for sale and she said take it I have no use for it and you can have the stand also. I tossed it in my truck and off I went. I get home peeled off the plastic it was wrapped in and was surprised to find a fresh bored 40 over block with domed pistons. I flipped it over removed the pan and noticed right away that the piston caps had been ground and the crank had little bits ground off also. Would that mean it was balanced?
It has no suffix code but it does have this number stamped on the pad 81 6634138 has anyone any ideas.
I have seen machine shops stamp rebuilt engines with the invoice or an inventory number to keep track of the engine for warranty purposes. Other than that I dont know.
