The only thing is the Buick Dynaflow transmission. The trans is very reliable but the fluid coupling is inefficient and makes it hard on fuel.

I was thinking the same thing. I kind of like the old-school type of swap. Use what you got!

 I was an apprentice in the late 70s and the shop that I worked at was on the same road as four or five auto wrecking yards. Our shop did a lot of odd swaps. People in the late 70s had a hard time due to the interest rates and money was tight. Rather than buy a used engine we would be asked if we could use the engine from one of the other cars in the household. Some of the things we did were putting a 425 Olds in a 72 LeMans wagon. The 350 Pontiac engines were scarce and expensive so the customer scrapped his 1966 Olds 88 to fix the LeMans. we also put a 1600 Datsun engine and trans in a Mazda RX2. There were other swaps also. We tried to help people the best we could.
