What a car, a neat car when new. I drove one once back in the late 80s, iirc it was a 72, cant remember if it was a 6.3 but it was a SEL. It had air suspension that was leaking when parked, the interior wood trim was a white oak. The exhaust fit into a grove in the floor, front to back, a real piece of engineering for the era. I hit about 130mph on the 4 lane, real easy to do, definitely a big Mercedes V8. It was a dark blue, I think its in St. Johns, NL now. It was owned new by the Sobey family.

One of the Motor Trend editors had a friend with one of these originals back in 1970 and it was the subject of the Miscellaneous Ramblings feature that they would run each issue. Reading that was my first exposure to the 6.3 and while I always look at Mercedes as an adversary I gained immediate respect for the marque reading that article.
The Editor and his wife and host couple were out for dinner and on their way home encountered a 69 GTO. The younger driver decided to show the two older couples what his Detroit muscle car was made of, but as the story goes it ended badly for the GTO and the Mercedes was able to show him that subtle 6.3 emblem on the trunk lid.
Love the ICON video and car.
