 The gauge in the dash is not the same from a 6 cyl/283 vs a 327/396? I've never heard of such a thing!

 64 65 Beaumonts gauge has different resistance . Think there was a thread about it here

Ah, ok. So we aren't talking about a gauge in the same make/model/year with the only difference being the engine. That makes more sense.

only the 1964 has a different resistance.  the 65 thru 67 are all the same.   on the otherside of your picture, its the guage guts held in a round metal cup?  if so, its a 65-67.  and they will all be the same, fuel line does not matter. as long as the sender and guage have the same ohm ratings

 And thats why you are the GuRu. My title said 66 but ment to say 65. There is the possibility it is 64 in the car that is not working right. The other 2 I have I know came from 65s so I will swap one of those in. Thanx for the help Dave

Just look at the guage. Like I say if it has a metal cup behind the face withe the windings contained in the cup its 65 to 67. If the guts are all hanging out behind the face it's a 64. You sill see what I mean when you put 2 side by side

So my gauge only goes to half when its full, but I used a chevelle sending unit, do I want a tempest one instead.

 No,  as long as the Ohm ratings match.   64 are a different ohm sender to match the 64 guage.   i believe the 64 is something like a 35 ohm and all the rest 65-67 are 90 ohms
