In my casual job working guarding prisoners for the RCMP I often guard guys on drugs, and specifically meth. During the night I got called in and when I got there I looked at the cell monitor. I thought I recognized the prisoner from numerous previous visits. I asked one of the officers ""Is it "John Smith" again?"" He said no but asked if I'd heard about John. He informed me John overdosed a couple of weeks ago. I had guarded him 5 times in 10 months. So sad, a young man similar age to both our children. A few months ago, one of the times I guarded "John" I just kept saying to myself one of these days this is going to end badly. It didn't take long for the prophesy to come true.
I know this is an old message, full of drama but invest in your kids. "John" never had a chance. He was a second generation user.

Yep. There was a young fellow renting a house down the road from us last year. A couple of times he'd knock on our door asking for a drive to town. He was a bit rough looking but I think he took a liking to me once I found out he liked cars and he'd talk about a Mustang 5.0 he had and wanted to build etc. Had big dreams to build a workshop etc. Neighbors told me to be leery of him and they had kicked him off their property. Anyway I found out a few monhts ago he was found dead in the house from a drug overdose. Sad
It seems like it's just impossible to kick when the guys get into it.
The young guy I guarded yesterday actually asked for help. He asked to be taken for an assessment when he was released and then for professional help for his addiction. In just over a year doing this I think this is only the second time I heard a guy say he had a problem and needed help.

Yes it's sad to see. Every day we see people on the streets, not sure how they got there. It's sad that somebody is making shit
knowing People are getting killed for their profit. Have had 3 people in my family go down this route, luckily 2 are still around.
Not sure whether mental issue that starts things off or just bad decisions. but it's a bad route to take. Appears some can fight it off
and others just can't seem to shake it before it takes them down, even though they know it can kill them. Maybe more Police need
to go into the drug side?? Not sure of the answer but it's sad to see it happen in front of us with no control.
