TRIED USING A US CROSS BORDER COURIER COMPANY ( RUNNING RED) - HOW IT COMPARES TO USING CANADA POST

i had a package to ship to the US  today,  it was a pair of 67 Chevy 2 headlight bezels .  the package was approximaly 5lbs -  from the canada post calculator i got an estimate of $42 Canadian for expidited postage.

 

I put the same package details into the running red estimator and it gave me a variety of options, the cheapest of which was USPS parcel select at 17.00 US - this amount includes the 5.00 sevice  fee that that running red charges for packages $50 or under

Of course there is the cost of gas for me to take the package to their depot.

Also the cost of paying for the US shipping costs in US funds is a bit of an extra cost for using Running red vs Canada post

 

DEPENDING ON WHAT IS BEING MAILED THE SAVINGS ARE SIGNIFICANT

What hasn't become clear to me is how the US customs are handled. Running Red takes it to the border, but who pays any taxes, duties, etc? That would need to be paid at US Customs, not at the USPS Post Office.

Granted, in this particular instance there is no US taxes on Auto Parts, but Running Red would need to present the description & declared value of any item they're importing into the US.

Running red would pay the taxes and duty, then pass it on to the customer. There is taxes on EVERYTHING, depending on what day it is..... At least Coming to Canada you pay taxes and duty on car parts... Both countries want their "pound of flesh" (tax)....

no - this was an ebay sale - ebay bills the buyer for the sales taxes for the state they reside in - as for duies i am not sure - my understanding is that under nafja is that north american produced auto parts are duty free

YOU will have to pay tax, duty and brokerage, if you are receiving it from the USA (along with state tax that the seller will pass on to you)

If you are shipping TO the USA... You May have to pay, depending on how the courier does it.

FORGET about NAFTA, customs have their own rules. All they see is parts, auto, wheel barrow, atv doesn't matter from my experience and I spent a pile of $$ during C19 shipping/returning/selling parts to the USA
