An older friend of mine bought new one of the first, a 1982 S10 Sport long bed. I remember in the early 80's going up to the Bruce Peninsula with a pair of Yamaha YT 3-wheelers in the back no problem. The top engine initially was only a 2.8 V6 but he bought it as a driver to supplant his nice K10 Silverado Fleetside 400 4x4 that was a lot thirstier.
Once the S10 Blazers came with a 4.3 things got more interesting.
The S10 Cameos had a clean look but were really nothing special, the GMC Typhoon and Syclone were where it was at. Many years ago when I was down in New Orleans there were numerous low-rider S10s running around.
I love these little trucks. I got my first one back in the early 90's, I still have it, while I was in Goose-Bay, Labrador. It was traded in at the dealer and I told my buddy who was the salesman, I wanted it under no certain terms. 1984 Tahoe, 2.8 "B" carbed engine with a 5-speed. It was a plain Jane with that strip package and actually managed to find one of the last ones from GM when I had it repainted due to a left fender and hood incident. The guy before me put in a sunroof.
I bought a couple of others to put on the aluminum wheels, Bilstein shocks, all the aluminum skid plates, power windows and locks, delay wipers and cruise. I also put on the front deflector with fog lights, RPO, ANL. Since these trucks didn't come with the fog lights till '90-'91, I had to get the fog light switch from an '87-ish Sungird GT to activate them. This truck still has the pull headlamp switch and the fog lamp switch fits in front of the headlamp switch itself, just the way it should fit. Then I added a posi from an 80's G-Body. Later, I converted to a 2.8 "R" EFI Which didn't happen with the V6 2.8's till 1986. It had the chrome wheelwell mouldings but added the wider black plastic one later with the wheels.
I drove it out here to Sakie when I moved here in 1997. Then I found a complete A/C unit and installed that to complete the truck the way it should have been built.

Shortly after I put up my shop in 2007, I needed a shop truck. I found a 2wd, 2.5 L short box at the local scrapyard. The truck itself was good but the engine was done. I then bought an early 1990s 4X4 Blazer, removed the front section of the frame and all the power options including AC and digital dash, driveline and put it into this one to use as my shop truck. 4.3 L, automatic.
So, had that one about 6 years and then bought myself a ZR2.
