1970 Formula 400 Carousel Red on black (std) interior "no drivetrain option" car (same base drivetrain as GTO) 1:411 1970 Firebird Formulas originally sold in Canada
Funny, we were just discussing that particular oddball transmission at our CP coffee break on Wednesday night. It was called Torque Drive. A manually shifted 2 speed automatic (sort of) transmission. This is from the 1969 Nova brochurse.
The Torque Drive was a manual-shift Powerglide with the valve body removed. It stays in low or high until you shift it. Cars so equipped also came with H.D. radiators as a clueless driver could lug an engine all day, protected by the converter. If you are allergic to a clutch and only have $37 to spend, there's an answer.
They were offered in 4 & 6 cylinder Novas 1968-71, 6-cylinder Camaros 1968-69, Vega 1971.
