Very well written article, no prejudice either way, just the facts from the real world. I asked a Tesla owner about range, he commuted from Lunenburg to Halifax for work, over 100kms one way. He said his range was 3-400 on a charge, dropping by half in winter. The car suited his needs.

Teslas build quality is very poor and their warranty is not well supported, if something goes wrong, they try to place blame on the driver.

I am optimistic batteries will improve range and charging times will speed up but suspect it will be 10-20 years before it reaches the usability and range of a normal vehicle, say 5-600kms in cold weather and a 5-10 minute recharge. By that time, well be paying $100 for an electric fillup?

I still think, if we have to go down this road, some sort of plug in hybrid is the answer to the rural needs. But still not convinced EV is the answer to the "problem", it's just putting the pollution else where. Which might help large urban centers, but not helping over all.

It's a cold night here in Toronto. I looked out my door and imagined that the dozens of cars all on the street were plugged it. Infrastructure needs to change now. Are we prepared for construction of this sort on a wide scale?
If electric is so good, why aren't we heating with electricity? Cost would be astronomical!
Hmmm...

So much for over 100 years of development of the Internal Combustion engine. Endless compliance & legislation have evidently sounded the death-knell finally.
Methinks the legislators need to take a nice ride in something with a nice exhaust note, something from the pre-smog era.

I dont miss driving behind an R model Mack spewing straight black soot, plus every diesel highway tractor, city bus, school bus, etc. My 409 smells much better, my grandson smelled that smell on he street in Ottawa at about 3 years old and said I smell grandpa.

I can see it now. All those cars plugged in and ...wham...power outage.

Next morning hundreds calling in to work that they didn't get there electric econo boxes charged last night and

can't make it in.....no.

No such excuse for the gas powered worker - even if the the tank is low you can always make it to

the local gas station for a less than ten minute fill up - then off to work you go....smile.
