What's your favourite car ad?

My favorite ad does not include a picture of a car.......smile.

I remember reading this in the car mags of the day (1964 - I was 18) and dreamin'......biggrin

I always liked this picture. The picture used in advertising had the engine compartment blacked out. I read that this was a pre-production car built for advertising. The driver side was Super Sport, the passenger side was Malibu.

there was an ad out long ago that got pulled shortly after release. they straped a watch to the front bumper of a pick up truck to show how durable it was. they pound this truck up and down hills , jumped it ran it through all kinds crap. at the end the guy pulls up with the truck and he said lets look at our watch. when the camera pans on the watch its smatched to hell and the guy says oh! but what did you think of the Ford truck?

All I can find is this,

1969 Pontiac commercial with the absolute best cast of well-known character actors ever assembled for a sixty second spot:

Broderick Crawford,

Mike Mazurki,

Elisha Cook Jr.,

Lon Chaney Jr.,

Robert Strauss

and Leo Gorcey.

A lot of these old car ads wouldn't go over well today.

One of Pontiacs most famous advertisements was also its most controversial. Hobbyists remember it well.

I remember originally seeing them, in fact a series of 1969 Ford Pickup ads on TV.

One started out with an aerial shot with an announcer in front of a disguised pickup. He begins, "This isn't really a car... O.K. break it up boys!" They proceed to sledge-hammer a covering on the back of this faux sedan, exposing an F100 Styleside. The announcer goes on with the slogan, Rides like a car, Works like a truck.

Another ad has a pair of hillbillys with a payload of moonshine in the back of an F100 Styleside Ranger. They decide to take a quick but rough & treacherous shortcut to save time. At the end they drop off the moonshine just in time, because it exploded as they exclaimed, "That musta bin powerful cider!"(sic) as they laughed and drove away in a shiny new Ford.

Around '72 or so, during the Canada-Russia Hockey series, they had a little girl with excellent hand-writing do more of the same while riding in the back of a Country Squire. This was to suggest a guaranteed smooth ride.    I think some show later spoofed it, where a surgeon was performing a circumcision in the back of a Country Squire being driven like a getaway car. Oops!

The republican's code name for Ted Kennedy used to be, "Chappy". As in Chappaquiddick.
