1969 Instrument Cluster differences

Broke out some of my collection today.

Most didn't make it through the 80s with radio hole intact doh

I have one good piece to build.

But the mid-year stuff on these cars still blows me away.

Always very subtle but everywhere you look.

One has a chrome band around the stainless insert.

None of the others I have seen has this.

Then there is the upper retention bar,

This one has the bar to prevent the plastic from sagging.

The rest that I have, don't and are warped

You can tell when they are on the car by the number holes in the top.

Extra holes for the pop rivets to attach the bar.

The 68 builds do not have the bar but my March 1969 does.

It's very unfortunate for me that my cleanest panel has no retaining bar and is sagged.

Another silly little thing that nobody sees or cares about biggrin

That's the cluster 'surround', the cluster has the speedo in it. LOL.
I think I only have 1 1969 cluster surround, will need to see if it had the support bar.
I also learned there's 2 different 1969 clock delete plates, I have both.

Would you consider installing a US rally cluster with all the gauges?

I'll bet all the 70s "surrounds biggrin", had the bar.

I have 5 delete plates and only one, nonworking, clock.

I will have to check to see if they are the same.

Like I said, I find all these subtle differences fun to find.

I saw one come up on Ebay about 6 months ago.

I am going to use the original speedo cluster.

Hey, I just realized that I have the correct 4-speed block out panel for the shifter select.

Like finding gold !

When I converted my Parisienne to a 4 speed, I hadn't even thought about blocking out the shift indicator.  When we were bleeding the brakes my buddy who was manning the brake pedal pointed it out.   I pulled the cluster surround, took out the shift indicator and sprayed the clear cover with black plastic paint, and re-installed.    It wasn't until sometime later that I got the correct block-off plate.   Yet to install though.

And sure enough, here are the different block out plates.

And thanks to GM putting dates on the back of clusters.
