Newest piece of shop equipment

As I get older, I am finally getting a bit smarter with lifting heavy stuff in the garage. A trip to emergency a couple of years ago with such severe back issues that I couldn't walk really made me smarter. This week an opportunity arose to make lifting blocks, diffs, transmissions etc a lot easier and safer. I grabbed that opportunity today. I think my back is going to be a happy camper. Anyone who's been in a care home or hospital will recognize this.

That's pretty slick Carl. I hope to see greasy prints and some racing decals on it soon!

I think the boom will have to get a new decal. Maybe "Rat Lifter" or "BB Lifter" or something like that! Although I don't think it will lift a fully dressed Mark IV. Seems to me it's rated at 600 lbs but I want it more for bare blocks, diffs, transmissions etc. anyway.

Hmm, I just had a thought. I wonder if I could make an adapter that would hold a Muncie? I could use it as a transmission jack as well.....

Make a fork jig on the end of it where it can pick up off your shelves, under or on your bench.

It works absolutely perfect and it's likely 1/3 the weight of my engine crane, 1/2 the size, rolls around way nicer and lifts about 10 times as fast vs hand pumping that hydraulic cylinder. I emailed a couple of pics to the guy I got it from after I did this today and told him how delighted I was with it.

Hmm, I should have thought of that.

I have nothing to lift here for the next while but next time I do I'll video it.
