It cost $480 to get the best guy I know, to rebuild mine properly.

I would think this is a good deal !

WOW, seems a little out of line for Canadian pricing.

If you are implying that it's overpriced I'm thinking you weren't aware of the cost to get a carburetor professionally done? And then add in the cost of buying the core to begin with? $300 won't professionally rebuild a carburetor anymore. Good cores typically sell for $150 or more for big blocks in that era.

My two cents worth, maybe that's all it's worth!

To put it in to perspective... The "Door rate" for most shops is in the area of $150/hr, so that would make sense. (Covid 19 , C19 markup) Didn't think it thru. I paid $300 in 2021..

Just saying, those early Quads with the red and blue ID tags are easily removable and altered. Buyer beware, is it what is stated?

Agreed.

Especially now that you can buy the tags.

Definately need to do your homework to verify that all the casting numbers on that one are correct.

I have noticed that (probably because the hi-po Chevy's had Holley's as OE) the Chevy Quadrajets are significantly cheaper than say a Pontiac Quadrajet.

That example looks nice, but while the fuel bowl and air horn appear coloured right (not too dark), they definitely went too heavy with the gold zinc - those parts were originally very lightly plated - just enough to make a slight gold colour if the light hit it right... not nearly as dark as 90% of the restored Quadrajets have these days.

I also find it interesting that Carter Carburetor manufactured this quadrajet for GMC. You can see it in the casting in the second picture.

Having had my share of Big Block Chev's and Q-jet carbs rebuilt, I don't find the pricing out of line. Try going to the auto parts store to buy a pail of Carb Cleaner, you won't find any.

I also agree the casting #'s should be checked.

Re the comment re Pontiac Quadrajet pricing, I expect it's as there were fewer made, and some very unique ones. I recall hearing Hillar had a fair share of Quadrajets squirreled away, including some very rare Ram Air carbs. They all ended up in the trash.
