Hearing "Rumours"

I'm starting to hear Rumours that the Ontario Safety Inspections are going to get "SEVERE" and Dougie has sent some top MTO officials to look at the UK's MOT inspections that get done "yearly" and are extremely tough to pass??  anyone heard any of this???? I know that video camera's are coming soon to do them and mechanic becomes a cameraman for Gov.

RE: Hearing "Rumours"

I was at a repair shop in Whitby and heard the same story. There was a 57 chev getting a safety certificate.  Same form used many years ago to write MTO Safety Certificates.

Sure hope I sell my Impala before the new legistrations kick in.

We get 1 mechanical inspection to get antique plates, safety only, then never need another one. We have a 2 year motor vehicle inspection requirement on all other automobiles. No emissions test on anything, and antique plates on anything 25 years and older, including modified like say a fibreglass bodied bb and blower Willys.

You must have a lot of crooked mechanics doing shoddy work and a lot of lawyers chasing accidents. If these rumours are not just fake news?

Ontario has no yearly inspections YET!!!  There have been a slue of "FAKE" safeties being written without even seeing the vehicle for years now, paid under the table. The ones caught have lost their inspection licenses and heavy fines. OPP & MOT pulled a "whack" of vehicles off the roads recently in road side inspections, & videos I saw they were "NOT FIT FORTHE ROAD" one cube van had 2x4's holding drivers seat in as there was "NO FLOOR"

Uber has a 7 year rule.

Your car must be within 7 years to drive for Uber to pick up passengers.

There are no restrictions for Uber Eats delivery vehicles.

Uber has had a safety certificate program in effect for Uber Drivers.

I retired from Uber as my car was to old.

I'll clarify past statement on inspections for Ontario, we only have a safety certification when a vehicle changes ownership. So some vehicles can go for decades or longer and NEVER get checked again!!! And yes there's "some" out there being driven that "shouldn't be".

In the UK, private passenger cars have to have MOT between 3 and 40 years old, once per year. "Minicab" drivers (which includes Uber) and regular Taxis have a tougher 6 monthly test.

So 3 of our family cars do not have any mandated inspections, being 47, 50 and 59 years since rolling of the lines. Of course, I keep a wary eye on all of them, including the others that are 19, 16 and 5 years old. (I'm greener than any of the Tesla drivers around me)

Of course I can't just trust myself, so they all get looked at regularly by my two carefully chosen and honest techs, the Parisienne was up on a four post lift just two weeks ago.
