Sad news.

Gordon Lightfoot has passed away.

Another musical constant through my life gone. RIP.

I remember listening to him on 8-track back in the 70's. He had many great songs, performed as only he could.
Gordon had some health issues but persevered & continued to perform.

On another note, Tim Bachman, brother of Randy Bachman and his late brothers Gary & Robbie, passed yesterday. He was in the original lineup & later rejoined for tours.

Together they represent some real Canadian music icons. I can just imagine those heavenly jam sessions...

Seen him a million years ago at Hamilton Place. Had front row seats and at one point he sat on the edge of the stage with his legs hanging over so close I could see every emotion in his face as he sang the song

You guys won't even believe this but he did a concert in Morris Manitoba, my little town of about 1400 back then, September 6th, 1980. Bummer was, I couldn't go. My cousin got married that day and I was in the wedding party. I remember stepping outside of the hall during the reception and listening to the concert (outdoor concert) even though it was on the other side of town!

I know Murray Mclauchlan was also part of that concert, can't remember who else.

Last October Gordon Lightfoot gave a video eulogy for a 105 year old friend of mine. Evidently when Lightfoot was a young teen just trying to get started my friend Jim, who was a barbershopper, was one of the ones who helped point him in the right direction. In the eulogy Lightfoot said it was Jim who first taught him that talent alone wasn't enough, you also had to have stage presence and know how to perform. I have pictures of them, and Jim's family, at Jim's 100th birthday.

Very sad.....no.....back in the 60's in Yorkville we used to walk by 'The Riverboat' and he would be performing.

You could hear the music outside......smile.

I quite often sing songs on the tractor while cutting our 3 acres of grass and one is The legend of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

RIP Gordie.........thanx for the memories.....biggrin
