4 speed with reverse to the left and then pull BACK?

I posted on another group that GM had never done it on Saginaw, Muncie or Borg Warner.

I've learned once again, never say never. Has anyone else seen this on any of the above listed 4 speeds?

Maybe those were supposed to go in right hand drive vehicles?

ITM's. Inland Tool Manufacturing. Common on the Camaros of the 70's with the Saginaw. My '53 Bel Air has a 350 and a Saggy since '99 with that exact shifter. And yes, you LIFT, move to the left and shift down.

Interesting. Any thoughts on why they deviated from their normal pattern? I'm assuming all they did was design an upside down reverse lever for the Saginaw and maybe it was designed that way because there was a clearance/interference issue with the shifter if they did it the ''normal" way.

I would say more than anything, cost? A base Camaro with the base Saginaw? Other than that synopsis, I don't have that answer.

Same thing on the 67 Acadian 4 door I just bought. I thought the transmission was screwed for about five minutes as I kept bumping the car ahead then trying to get it in reverse. Left and up every time, but no go. God mad and yanked on it and it smoothly slid into reverse. Beats me.
