I have to agree. As much as a deathtrap as those cars cold be with all that sharp stuff  it wasn't until 1966 that they started to cheapen the cars with (gasp!) plastic grille inserts.  I still remember being kind of disappointed when I checked my dads new car and found plastic in the grille.. Luckily Beaumonts were still full die cast death dealing spears in 1966.

Anybody have a 65 owners manual? I can find american cars weight easy but no canadian so far. I just weighed the dash bezel and a couple of tailight housings and theres  twenty pounds right there let alone the grilles headlight bezels tailpanel etc. Just plastic and aluminum on a chev.

The two grilles together probably approach 30 lbs, The light bezels maybe 7?

One would think think that the cost and weight reduction started in 66 happened right at that time, but the 66 designs were likely approved up to 4 years before. So even in the early 60's the designers saw what was coming.

I can only imagine what those large, intricate and shiny parts must have cost GM, so it's not surprising they stopped. But in doing so they really said goodbye to an amazing era of style didn't they...

 The owners manuals are printed in the USA and are the same ones used by the Canadian plants (Oshawa). Why print 2 different books??? (cost saving)

 The same as when you look at the mileage figures, all the figure are in US gallons. Not many people have figured that out, even now. So if you do the calculations to convert to Imperial gallons. You will find you are getting "better mileage" than GM says...

That weight figure 1950 KG's, was last week on the scales at our township dump with a 220lb driver....

The Catalog of Cdn Car ID Numbers lists a base 65 Strato Chief 2 dr sedan 6 cyl at 3364 Lbs. A V8 Custom Sport convertible at 3586 lbs and a Parisienne V8 4 dr wagon at 3982 lbs.
Other models are listed but this is the range.

We're getting a little off topic here, but there were different owners manuals for Canada and the USA.  Take a look at these 3 different owners manuals for the 1970 full-size Pontiac cars:

 I know its off topic but i just had to add to the post from Clint. The 1970 specs on the brochures tell the story reguarding the differance in weight of CP verses the american models.  I know which car I'd pick , the lighter more horsepower Canadian Pontiac for sure.pontiac specs 001.JPGpontiac specs 002.JPG
