One thing I had always wanted to do with my Pontiac after buying it in September 1989 was take the car back to the factory in Oshawa and take some pictures of the car with any remaining workers that may have been around back in 1966. Well in 2008, I finally decided to do it. I contacted someone at the factory customer relations department by email and explained what I wanted to do. Someone named Joel or Jim......something like that replied and said they would get back to me. After a week, I hadn't heard anything, so I told my dad, "Well, let's just drive down and see what happens ". Always up for an adventure, he said, "Ok" and off we went for the 3 hour run down to Oshawa. It was mid-week, so the place was fairly busy around lunchtime when we arrived. Sooooo.....how do we do this? Well, I figured the best thing to do would be to just drive right on up to the front door! So, I slowly drove up onto the curb and right down the long front walkway up close to the front door. (See the pictures). A few people stared, but we acted like we knew what we were doing and ignored them. I positioned the car in a good spot........and then security came out.
Security: "Can I help you? "
Me: " Hey man, how's it going? No we're all good, thanks. "
Security: (more directly) " Ummmmm....what are you doing?"
Me: "We're doing a photo shoot."
Security: " Who said you could do this?"
Me: " I've been dealing with Joel in customer relations. I talked to him about this."
Security: " Wait here please. I'll have to check on that."
So, security walks away. I tell my dad. Let's hurry up and gets these pictures before that guy comes back. I didn't actually flat out lie. I just hadn't followed through on getting permission. We took a few pictures at the front office doors and then took off before the security guy came back. We then went to the actual assembly section of the factory and took a few more pictures before heading off to lunch. Sorry about the clarity of the pictures. I am taking pictures of pictures.
