I've decided to part with my fabulous 1959 Pontiac Parisienne, affectionately named Stella.
Stella is a 1959 Pontiac Parisienne two-door hardtop, one of just over a thousand built like her (I have the General Motors paperwork with the numbers). It was sold new at Leblond Auto in Thetford Mines, Quebec, in December 1958.
It was born with a 261-cubic-inch in-line 6-cylinder and a cast-iron automatic transmission. When I bought it 5 years ago, the engine was disassembled out of the car, and in poor condition. So I upgraded it with a 1960s engine: a 283-cubic-inch V8 that had been rebuilt and mated to an aluminum Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission, also rebuilt. The V8 conversion was done by pros (Julien Performance in Quebec City) and I made sure that the look of the engine and engine compartment were faithful to factory 1959 Pontiac.
Work done on the car in recent years:
- New power steering conversion
- Power brake conversion with front disc brakes
- New alternator
- New carburetor (summer 2023)
- HEI (electronic ignition) distributor cap, brand new wires, etc. (summer 2023)
- Rebuilt differential
- New rear axles
- New muffler
- New manifolds
- New radiator
- Windshield and windshield gasket replaced two years ago
- New steering and suspension (bushings, rods, complete front-end rebuilt with new parts!)
- Brand-new emergency handbrake
- Floors repaired with original OEM molded pans, very solid and well done
- 5 American Classic radial tires with bias ply look (now only a year and a half of wear cost $2500..
- Dash pad re-covered with original SMS vinyl and new carpet
- Seats rebuilt to original specifications in every detail with the right SMS fabrics and vinyl (cost more than $4500 just for this!)
- Etc, etc. etc... and other etcs..
This car is in perfect mechanical condition, an excellent road car, that won't let you down. It's reliable and handles perfectly on the road. The car has no funny noises, creaks, whistles, and it feels very solid and firm. This is just an excellent old car.
I want to make it clear, and be as honest as possible: the body/paint could use some love, but wether it needs to be done, that's up to each individual. Personally, I'm keeping it as is, I like the patina, original look and the fact that the body is mostly original and unrestored. Personally, I like this more than a shiny new paint, but I know it's not for everyone.
So, yes, clearly there's a bit of rust on the body and the paint is worn. I'm well aware of that. My asking price already takes this into consideration, so dont bother pointing out these issues to haggle the price.
My price is $25,000.
I have invoices for twice that amount and the insurance appraisal done in November 2022 is $29,000 (taxes not included).
Comes with many spare parts, including the complete weatherstripping, brand new uninstalled and sets of original hubcaps or optional spinners..
