Strange noise in my 94 Park Ave

I'm getting a strange intermittant noise in my 94 Park Ave. It happens at any speed and sounds like it's from the left front of the car. Normally it would last about half a second and sounded like a CV binding up. Doesn't matter if I'm going straight or turning but does seem to occur under load. It did this about 3 weeks ago on a trip then stopped. It started back up yesterday and at one point it lasted about three seconds and was really alarming. It sounded like a "sprag" type sound or when an axle is splipping on the splines. After it stopped I didn't have any more noises and drove the car about an hour afterwards with no issues. The car has 116000 miles. Trans fluid looks excellent. I pulled both front wheels and checked the axles- nothing unusual, no excessive play etc. I'm concerned I have a transmission issue. It's a noise I've never experience in any car I've owned. It has the 4T60-E transmission. Sound familiar to anyone?

Those intermittent noises are hard to point out but very similar to what I got about 2 months ago on my Honda Odyssey. My mechanic thought most likely issue would be transmission fluid residues. I changed the transmission fluid and the sound almost totally disappeared. Now it occasionally occurs under low revs immediately after changing from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th. Mechanic said it would be ideal to change the transmission oil a second time  and that may eliminate the noise. Just sayin...

It was really strange. You never know the history of a 30 year old car. The transmission could have been rebuilt at some time and perhaps a component wasn't assembled correctly. To me it sounded like something that should be locked in place in the transmission briefly let go and started spinning and then reseated. I haven't heard the noise since. The fluid looks like new but I may just change the fluid and filter anyway. The original owner was a wealthy potato farmer and had his company mechanics maintain it. I've already found the wrong spark plugs and a alternator with a PN that doesn't match what the car requires.

I can imagine. I hope there's a bit more room if I have to pull it in the Park Ave compared to a W body.

So it's a week later and the noise appeared again. I was coming back from taking Poncho the cat home from the vet (can't poop, $350 enema later still can't poop), and the noise started occurring. I didn't get that "sprag" noise, just a momentary "bump" noise (nothing felt though). Slightly metallic sounding. All gears but not when rolling in neutral. Under load or not under load. I suspect something in the final drive. Will also occur at any speed. No pattern to it at all (not rythmic).
