modern wiring harness??

Hey fellas, I've been shopping for a wiring harness for my 54 Pathfinder. There are a lot of options out there. I'm going to change it to 12v and it is running a SBC with HEI ignition. Has anyone used one they liked? I've looked at Vintage Auto Garage, Haywire, AutoWire, and Painless. Plus there is always Amazon. Anyone ever heard of WMPHE?? They have one on Amazon that looks good, but I havent pulled the trigger yet. Its half price of everybody else which makes me nervous, is that a good thing or is it that cheap???? ya know what I mean!!

I have used painless for other projects and not had an issue
One thing to look into is to make sure wire insulation isnt soy based. Poses a big problem for vehicles that sit a lot. Rodents like the taste of the soy based wire harness and will make a nasty mess in the most indiscriminate spots.

Thanks, thats a good tip. I never would have thought of that. I live in the country and although the shop is pretty tight, I always seem to get one or two every year.

I bought this one on eBay. It looks good but I havent installed it yet. I dont know if the insulation is soy based.

As an update, the motor had its first start on 12 volts and HEI ignition. Started up great, I was impressed. Also now have headlights, front parking lights, tail lights, brake lights and front and rear signals. Its a win!! But I wired the alternator today and when I started the engine, it wouldnt shut off!! LOL had to pull the wire off. Well that's a tomorrow problem!!!

Converted my '53 over to 12v almost 25yrs ago with a SBC and a 4-gear. (original 235 was pooched) I just switched all the bulbs where needed, HEI and alternator in place. Never had a hitch. I believe I used the extra terminal on the ignition switch for the alternator.

If that option isn't available, it will selfignite with a little rev of the gas pedal. I had to do that with my '60 Pontiac. No provision. So I left terminal "1" on the alternator 2 pin plug open. (if on the same line as the ignition, it will backfeed and keep the HEI powered)

You can also bring #2 pin of the plug, red wire, back to the "B" post of the alternator instead of running another wire in the harness if you haven't done already.

Nice 53, never see many pre 55s, Chev or Pontiac.

On my 63, I had that starter problem, stayed engaged- I have a mini hi torque and Pertronics. My starter was fed directly by the coil, I had to put a diode in that power feed so the starter wouldnt run on.
