I was talking to an RCMP officer the other day about the problem with new cars being stolen. A faraday pouch can help prevent thiefs from reading your fobs. The reason I was talking to him is a 15 year old stole a Dodge Caravan and dumped it at work and I had to pull security cam footage for the police. The van by the way was a write off as the kid abused it off road, destroyed the transmission etc.
The bigger problem out here is most folks just leave their keys in the car. He also told me a funny story. This happend the morning I was talking to him:

RCMP gets a call about a stolen car. Later they spot it parked at a local funeral home. The officer I was talking to went inside the funeral home and asked the director if they had security cameras. The director replied "Yes, why do you ask". The officer replies "There's a stolen vehicle in your parking lot". The director says "Oh... I think there's been a misunderstanding". In his office was an 80 year old fellow who borrowed the vehicle from the owner as he wanted to go to the funeral home and buy a headstone! Apparently the owner of the vehicle allows him to use the car from time to time and the keys were in it as usual. The fellow said he knocked on the owners door but didn't get an answer so he figured he wouldn't mind if he borrowed the car. The officer called the owner and the owner stated that he did in fact loan the car to this fella on occasion but had ruled him out as having taken it because the weather wasn't good.

LOL!

The more gadgets they add the easier they are to get into. Good old key and a club are still the best deterrents. ( along with a manual transmission )
