Driveshaft stripes

Ive been coming across a few spots talking about coloured stripes on drive shafts. Did the acadians have this? The 65 in particular. Anybody have any details or direct to where the info might be?
 Thanks

Boy I wish this fuzzy old memory worked better because I know I pulled the shaft off my 43,000 mile 65 Canso SD 30 years ago and cleaned it up. There was a very clear stripe once I cleaned it but I just can't recall the colour or size of it.

Here is one from a 1966 Nova. A lot of things from my 1965 Nova where the same parts as a 1966 Nova, so my guess is a 1965 Nova would be similar to a 1966.

What is the purpose of the drive shaft stripe, is the drive shaft different based on the engine size?

From what I have read the strip was for assembly line workers. Because there were different drive shafts for different motors and transmissions, the colors and order and number of strips help them quickly determine which driveshaft they needed to grab off the shelf

thats just my interpretation of others explanations.

I think in 66 there will have only been one driveshaft because the 3 speed manual was a Saginaw, the 4 speed was a Muncie and the automatic was a Powerglide, all 3 being the same length. In 65 the 3 speed manual was not fully synchronized and I'm not sure if it was the same length as the 4 speed Muncie and the Powerglide.

For future readers of this post who own them, in an xframe 59-64, the 4 speed, 3 on the tree, and powerglide were all different lengths.
